This post intended for our male members 35+ we we continue to get asked "what can I do to get results and not get injured. Im older now and more interested in staying healthy and fit." German Volume Training is ONLY one tool we have recommended for years to our clients and members. Below is a short exerpt on what to do. (PS - Great for the ladies too, who may be interested)... HOW IT WORKS The core of German volume training is 10 sets of 10 reps for a single body part per workout. Plus accessory work. Rest is vital as this is an intensive program. Day 1: Chest and back Day 2: Legs and Abs Day 3: Rest Day 4: Arms and Shoulders Day 5: Off The program works because it targets a group of motor units, exposing them to an extensive volume of repeated efforts, specifically, 10 sets of a single exercise. The body adapts to the extraordinary stress by hypertrophying the targeted fibers. To say this program adds muscle fast is probably an understatement gains of ten pounds or more in six weeks are not uncommon even in experienced lifters! Coach Charles R. Poliquin Weight You want to begin with a weight you could lift for 20 reps to failure if you had to. For most people, on most exercises, that would represent 60% of their 1RM load. Once you’re able to do 10 sets of 10 with constant rest intervals, increase the weight on the bar by 4% to 5%, and repeat the process. Rest Periods Rest for 60 90 seconds between sets. We are knee deep into the holiday season. How do we all get through this busy, food focused time of year without derailing our health, fitness, and wellness goals?? Here are just a few ideas to keep you on track. -Maintain your routine as much as possible. Keep your daily meal and exercise habits as normal as possible. This is just a season. Every day in December does not need to look completely different. Doing these things in the midst of the busy holiday hustle will help reduce your stress, reduce those guilt laden pit falls for not doing them, and help keep you moving towards your goal. -Let protein lead the way. Protein is vital for keeping your fitness goals on track every day not just during the holidays. Protein will help stabilize blood sugars, keep you feeling full longer, and help you avoid grabbing that sugar/carb laden impulse snack. Having a protein snack prior to heading to a holiday party can give you the edge for staying in better control when faced with those holiday food choices. -Assess your holiday situation. Most of us will be faced with many opportunities to celebrate.office parties, family gatherings, holiday luncheons. The holidays are filled with foods that can mean many things to us.food memories are very prevalent and can feed our soul. Map out those gotta have goodies ahead of time. Choose what you are going to let yourself indulge. This will help you from partaking in everything that crosses your path. The holidays are a magical time to share special moments with family and friends. Make your plan to stay on track. Respect the hard work you have been putting in. It is easier to stay on track than to recover from weeks of mindless over indulgence! Enjoy the season.each moment can have something special for you!!
