Why Thermography? What can it actually do for me? Here's what breast thermography is all about: 1. It provides functional information that no other modality provides. 2. It may provide the earliest warning that something is wrong. I.E. neoangiogenesis associated with tumor growth.... 3. Individualized breast cancer risk assessment. An abnormal thermogram carries with it a 10x greater risk of future breast cancer than a first order family history. 4. A possible role in breast cancer prevention. Breast thermograms can show the thermal markers associated with hormones in the breasts. Reducing your lifetime exposure to estrogen may decrease your risk of developing future breast cancer. 5. Thermography is a sensitive and non-invasive imaging modality for younger women. Most women do not start utilizing mammography until their 40s. 15% of breast cancer occur in women under 40 and are particularly aggressive and have poor survival rates. Women should start breast thermography at 20 with a series every 2 years until 30.
