December 20 - A Reason for Peace- A Promise Fulfilled I have often wondered about Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus. What would it have been like to raise the Son of God? The Bible describes him as a righteous man. He listened then responded to God in obedience and is a wonderful biblical example of integrity and godly character.

December 19- A Reason for Joy - A Promise Fulfilled When the Babylonians conquered Jerusalem, they took gifted Jewish men to train them to be advisers for the king. Daniel is the most famous of the king's wise men, known as magi. The book of Daniel predicts that 483 years would pass from the time of the decree to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem until "Messiah the Prince" would come (Daniel 9:25). WIse men or magi probably enlightened by the book of Daniel, followed a star unt...il they found the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ. Imagine that you are so excited about someone or something that you would travel many miles, at great expense and hardship to be with that person. Wise men and women still seek him. Take time this week to remember the reason for the season. Worship the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.

December 18 - A Reason for Joy- A Promise Fulfilled Like Herod, we often seek Jesus but for the wrong reason, as though He is a type of Santa Claus or a remote being waiting to grant our wish or save us from some crisis. But He is a real living God, and He wants a relationship with us. Whether or not our particular wants are granted is not important. What is important is that He gives us what we need, the peace that passes all understanding, because He loves us and sacrificed Himself as payment for our sins.

December 17 A Reason for Joy- A Promise Fulfilled How was it that the priest knew where the Messiah would be born? The answer is in they knew the scriptures. Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea when Herod was king. After Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. They asked, Where is the baby who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east. We came to worship him. When King Herod heard about this new king of the Jews, he was troubled. And all the people in Jerusalem were worried too. Herod called a meeting of all the leading priests and teachers of the law. He asked them where the Christ would be born. They answered, In the town of Bethlehem in Judea. The prophet wrote about this in the Scriptures. (See Matthew Chapter 2:3-5 and Micah 5:2)

A Reason For Joy- A Promise Fulfilled Talk about a long wait, it had been 700 hundred years since the prophet Micah shared the prophecy that the Savior would be born in Bethlehem. We see again that although it was King David's birthplace, it was an insignificant place, where a shepherd boy grows up to be a beloved king of Israel and then a descendant of that same king, Jesus, is born to fulfill a long-awaited promise of God.
