Here's the end of day summary on Hurricane Michael cleanup and recovery efforts. We were very fortunate in Macon+Bibb County, but there are still people without... power this evening. Crews have already cleared all road closures that don't involve power lines, and traffic signals are working. The evacuation shelter is closed, and all people and pets are headed home. The Macon-Bibb Co. Fire Dept. responded to four VERY early morning fires. And SO much more that happened quickly and efficiently before people woke up. There is still a little more work to do, so please avoid downed power lines, and report damages to the EOC by calling 832-6300 between 8:30 and 5:30 Friday. Thank you. Hurricane Michael weather and preparedness press conference. Hurricane Michael is a very strong category 4 hurricane that is currently 60 miles south-southwest ...of Panama City Florida. Its current sustained winds are 145 mph and is moving forward Northeast at 14 mph. Macon-Bibb County is currently in a Tropical Storm Warning and should start seeing outer rain bands from Hurricane Michael starting in early afternoon and major impacts later this evening between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.. We are asking everyone to find a safe location no later than 7:00 p.m. tonight and stay in that safe location till at least 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. Thursday, once the storm has passed. We are also asking people to stay off the roads Thursday, if you are able, to give our emergency response crews free access to assess damage and begin recovery efforts. We expect to see high winds throughout the evening anywhere from 25 to 45 mph which may bring down tree limbs and trees, potentially knocking out power .
