TODAY is the day!! The purpose of our Holiday Market is to create a place where refugee, and local start-up business owners can showcase and sell their goods. We seek to foster a sense of welcome and inclusion while engaging those connected to and invested in the global Clarkston Community and beyond. Here are a few last minute details: * In order to be as safe and open-air as possible, there will be no tents this year. ... * It's going to be cold, so bundle up! * The Market will spill onto our block of Market Street to make room for social distancing (parking map below). * Did we mention that there are 60 vendors?? * So, come hungry and ready to shop! * And, if you can't come in person, check out our Online Holiday Market here. * For more details, check out our Facebook page. Shop safe. Support local. Support global.

We're pleased to announce that we have received a grant award of $2000 from the Catholic Foundation of Georgia. We're honored to be entrusted with these funds to support job-training and mentorship for resettled refugees. Many thanks to Catholic Foundation of North Georgia!

Once upon a time there was a dead-end job. A necessary job where chickens are slaughtered, scalded, de-feathered, beheaded, eviscerated, and chilled. A job that paid the rent and put food on the tablebarelybut tricked people into its tempting lair of survival, its exhausting drone of long commutes; a job that numbed minds while it numbed fingers and kept hard workers mute under its spell. There once was a woman who chose this job because the alternative was no job. She’d fl...ed the dragons of armed conflict in her home country, only to find another dragon here in ours: the dragon of a dead-end job. She did not lack the will to work or the aptitude to learn a new language and skills; she simply lacked an opportunity. She lacked the opportunity to work while also breathing and dreaming. Lack of workplace opportunity is a fierce dragon. It breathes the fire of unemployment and the stealthier fire of under-employment. When this dragon rears its head, the assets of a communityits peoplenever get the chance to shine. Combined with the dragon of COVID-19, the lack of opportunity multiplied. Add - help us slay more dragons in 2021 with your yearend gift! (link in profile) Thanks @rossboone for this amazing graphic!
