A memory from our partner Jonathan, to whom the Enchanted Garden of Lights is so dear: "I have always loved Christmas lights, even from my earliest memories. When I would go on car rides at night I can remember convincing myself that the different hues of street lights were really Christmas lights in disguise. It didn’t matter that it was the middle of the summer. So, when my mother heard about Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights, she knew that it had to become part of ou...r family’s holiday tradition. I can remember being in complete awe as we’d walk through the twinkling lights of Blizzard’s Pass and the Gingerbread House. I remember we would all get hot chocolate and sit through the entire Nativity Story, presented in lights, and then I would get to go look in the shops. After a few years, I began to dream and wish that when I was older I could be one of the people putting up the lights. What a magical job that must be! Those annual visits to the lights during my childhood are precious memories to me. My mom passed away when I was 15 and our annual trip to see the lights stopped, but the dream of somehow one day being a part of setting up the greatest light show in the area stuck with me. Fast forward a few years. Life took an unexpected turn and I found myself applying for a job at Rock City. I started in the ticket desk, but that didn’t stop me from being very vocal with my desire to help with the Christmas lights and decorations. I ‘m pretty sure they thought I was crazyand maybe still do! Year by year I slowly began taking on a little more decorating responsibility in the park until eventually leading the special events team where it was my great honor to plan the light wrappings and shop decorations for several years. The dream came full circle, and the magic of the Enchanted Garden of Lights shines just as brightly in my heart today as it did in a 7 year old little boy 25 years ago. Here’s to 25 more years of magical holiday memories at Rock City!" #25yearsoflights See more
