Something happened today I think is worth sharing. Especially now. I young black lady came to the store today. We are familiar with this lady, always kind and happy. She has an older car that we try to help her keep running. It's a good car, a Nissan, well cared for, but like me, has some miles on it. She had called earlier to ask about a coil for another family car, and arrived to purchase it in the Nissan. She asked me if I'd look at the Nissan while Corey got the c...oil for her. It was starting poorly. It was simply a bad connection on the battery, an easy fix- about five minutes. While I was working on her battery, she mentioned to Corey that she had been told that she really needed two coils, but one would have to do for the day. Another good customer, a white lady, not a particularly rich one either, came into the store while I was outside. She was standing there and heard the need for two coils - 60 dollars each for the Hitachi brand, which is OE for application. She always insists on the better parts. The white lady simply spoke, "It's on me, Corey- I'll pay for it. God's been good to me, and I'd like to share." Our young black customer was overwhelmed with the kindness, and accepted it graciously, replying that "God is always working, and today he's working through you." "Thank you." God is always working. We just need to see it. Through our heartaches and troubles, He's there. Through our times of plenty, He's there. We saw that today. If we could all just follow that example- grace and graciousness..... without regard to color, or anything else that seems to separate us. Human beings exhibiting Love. Very powerful. See more

July is Independent Retailer Month. This annual shop local event encourages consumers to support positive social and economic impact by shopping at independent retailers. The stats around the shop local movement are impressive: Each $100 spent at local independents generated $45 of secondary local spending, compared to $14 for a big-box chain. The Institute for Local Self-Reliance Local. Don't spend more money just to buy local. Shop the prices. We are quite sure that... we are very competitive with the big box retailers. We hear it every day. Thanks for your support of the COMMUNITY!

Today we choose to close our store, one of the six days a year we close for a holiday. Today is not so much of a holiday, but a day for us to remember those that made the greatest sacrifice for our freedom. I was 4 years old when the war in Vietnam escalated under President Johnson, a Democrat. I can't say what the pure reasons for us to become involved. It quickly became my generation's war. It was on the news every night, and the body count was published each day. Many... "liberal" people in the U.S. at that time were against our involvement in that conflict. Many draftees burned draft cards, moved to Canada, or found other ways to find a way to avoid being involved in the killing. It was mostly proud young American boys with generations of family involved in previous conflicts, or others too poor to attend college or buy their way out. My uncle at the time was just lucky. He was classified 4-f due to a problem with his feet. But for those that entered that territory to defend our freedom, or fight against the ongoing threat of communism, we owe a deep gratitude. Unfortunately, many of those that did not die in Vietnam came home to a very unwelcoming American public. They ran to change out of uniform as soon as they returned from the horrors of war. It took an unpopular Republican, Richard Nixon, to realize that we could not win this war without using the terrible weapons that ended WWII. I don't want to take anything away from our "Greatest generation", but I think that anyone that has died, or served our country in the military deserves our respect and utmost gratitude. Today we memorialize those that have died in any war. Some tears will be shed today for loved ones. The pullout in my generation's war began in 1973. but was not complete until 1976. I was already registered for the draft, as was required by law. I probably would have gone to Vietnam, but the war was over. I'm grateful I didn't have to make that decision. For those that did make that decision, or had that decision made for them, today we mourn the loss. The best of the best who gave their lives for our country. We still fight for freedom, but something changed in our perspective of war after Vietnam. It should not change our respect and honor for any man or woman that has given life for the cause. Thank you, Veterans and families. We are indebted to you forever.
