Thanks for continuing to pray, especially for TEXAS! ....from one of our friends in Belton, TX. "We've been without power so long I can't remember when it did go off. Thank goodness for lots of blankets and warm clothes. It's back on now but expecting it to go off anytime. At least I do have water."

Shortly after the coronavirus outbreak ravaged New York in 2020, the Navajo Nation surpassed the Empire State as the new hotspot. First citizens have suffered t...he brunt of the pandemic that has devastated hundreds of families and created an urgent need for support in the health system. Janice Ballard has spent her career working as a public health official, and she applied that knowledge to service in the Navajo Nation with COVID Care Force (CCF), an organization founded by Dr. Gary Morsch to mobilize volunteer healthcare professionals to serve in COVID hotspots. When Gary called to ask me to support, my response was a resounding yes, Ballard shares. For me, the practice of public health isn’t just a career. It’s my callinga tangible expression of my service to God and to His people, here in the USA and in the nations, and the question was, if not now, then when, and if not me, then who? Ballard was part of the initial assessment team sent to the Navajo Nation. The need was so profound that she felt compelled to stay and fight this deadly virus alongside the Navajo people, many of whom have lost multiple family members to COVID-19. Her duties included visiting health facilities, mobilizing resources, determining where to send doctors and nurses to serve, and serving as the field representative for CFF. She also stepped into a role with the largest hospital in the Navajo Nation, advising their pandemic response. My main role here has really been to listen, learn, and support the good work the leaders were doing for decades before I came, Ballard says. Ballard was blessed by the people she has met. I came to the Navajo Nation as a stranger, she explains. Now, I’m here working alongside my new friends and neighbors, worshiping Jesus, fellowshipping, and praying with them. The Navajo people have given me more than I could ever give them. My life has been incredibly enriched . Ahéhee’thank you! #livecompassion

*Weekly Prayer Update* Full Page PDF: https://bit.ly/3ogPLaO Half Page PDF: https://bit.ly/3knqzNH Text of update:... >>>>Flooding in Cambodia In Cambodia, seasonal rains made worse by tropical storms caused flooding in 19 of the country’s 25 provinces, affecting 140,000 people and causing at least 20 fatalities. Many crops, roads, buildings, and bridges have sustained damage, and more than 12,000 families have been displaced. The Church of the Nazarene currently has 62 churches in Cambodia. We pray for the people of Cambodia who are in need following the storms. Be with those who had to leave their homes. Provide for their needs and encourage those who are weary. >>>>Holistic Child Development in Nepal In Nepal, six child development centers minister to almost 300 children. These centers, like most around the world, were closed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Sponsored children have been sharing their experience during the lockdowns in letters with their sponsors. One child says, In the time of lockdown, I did many things and learned from my parents. I learned how to cook different dishes. I have also worked in the field. I spent my time with my family which was happy for me. This disease is spread all over the world, which is sad for all. Take care and stay safe! Child development programs in Nepal, where there was a devastating earthquake in 2015, are also part of ongoing earthquake recovery projects, which help build community resiliency long term. We pray for sponsored children in Nepal, who have spent many months isolated from classmates. Protect them and their families, and help them to trust You for their future. >>>>Making a Difference through Shechem Children’s Home The Shechem Children’s Home is a short-term assessment center for survivors of online sexual exploitation of children in the Philippines. Shechem provides a safe environment for children to receive emotional, educational, and spiritual care while long-term plans for placement are made. We pray for children who are cared for at Shechem. May they find healing, peace, and hope for a better future.

Today is #WorldFoodDay, a day to recognize the importance of food and agriculture to the health and well-being of all people. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemi...c has caused greater food insecurity for the most vulnerable, including those living in extreme poverty, and agriculture projects and food distributions are a vital part of the church’s compassionate short-term and long-term response. In one agricultural project supported by the Church of the Nazarene, farmers in Rwanda are growing an improved variety of banana which is helpful for both nutrition and gaining a higher income at market. Along with the proper training, the impacts of this project are intended to extend beyond the end of the project as the families apply what they learn to future crops and experience greater financial security. For this program, NCM is pleased to partner with Growing Hope Globally, which connects agriculture communities in the United States with agricultural development programs overseas. You can read more about the Rwandan banana project here: https://www.growinghopeglobally.org/program/rwanda-rubavu/ Learn more about other food security projects here: ncm.org/foodsecurity.
