October 3 Workday: Members of our club view the Children’s Healing Garden at the Light House Village as a very special place. A place of peace, and a gift of love to the children and others who enjoy it. A brief history - We started construction on this garden during the presidency of the late Barbara McCarthy in 2006 and it was completed in 2008 when Bruce Ahlstrand was our president. It was a special day. Not only was it a work day, it was also a dedication attended by som...e very special people. We would like to thank them for joining us. Special Guests: Jeff Beech of the Beech Foundation / former Rotarian - who has been instrumental in helping the Rotary Club with the Garden. Tina Fichlin, District Governor of Rotary District 6910 Gale Thomas, President of the Garden Club and some of her members. Julie Lynne Macie a former member of this Rotary Club and former extension agent here in Rockdale when the Garden was built James Murphy, the current Rockdale extension agent Dick Chenoweth a Master Gardner who was heavily involved at the beginning of this project. To complement the other plaques, trees and other amenities in the garden, a new dedication is added. It reads: We offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Conyers Garden Club for their ongoing dedication, effort and leadership in helping to maintain the Children’s Healing Garden here at Light House Village. ~ May Peace be in our Communities~ On Monday September 21, both Rotary Clubs in Rockdale County gathered in observance of World Peace and Understanding Day. Our Interact Club (Hills Academy) made us proud by joining in as we used the newly painted mural as our backdrop. In 2001 the United Nations designated the September date as an annual International Day of World Peace.... The day's devotion to peace connects closely with what Rotary members have been fostering since The Rotary Foundation's mission to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace, was proclaimed in 1917.
