Yesterday our speaker was Walt Davis, introduced to the club by Ken Hodges. Walt is the state business court judge, and was instrumental in organizing and establishing the state business court. An interesting fact is that Walt is the first judge in Georgia that did not have to be appointed through a public election.
Today we heard from our Rotary District Governor, Kirk Driscoll. We enjoyed the opportunity to hear from the District Governor, and his message that we are made to be social and should feel blessed when we have the ability to reach out to others. You never know how much of a difference a person can make by simply reaching out to someone. Pictured below: President Chuck Logan and Kirk Driscoll giving Ms. Blitch a Plaque to honor the years of dedicated service served by her husband. David Blitch held 45+ years or Rotary perfect attendance.
Last week we heard from Mark Masters, director of the Georgia Water Planning & Policy Center at Albany State University. Mark gave an excellent presentation with tremendous insight formed by the data they have been continually collecting on our water usage. Last week our club heard from Darrell Moore with Valdosta State University. Darrell has been essential in bringing the Center for South Georgia Regional Impact to life over the last two years. They have focused on combing Education and Economic Development across our region of South Georgia. Under Darrell’s leadership they are preforming services such as Financial Impact Studies to new businesses looking to locate in our area.
Pleased to have State Senator Freddy Powell Sims, and State Representative Gerald Greene speak at our club this past week. They are working diligently to bring funding and promote growth in our district. Thank you both for your commitment to SouthWest Georgia. This week we heard from Jon Demond, Mary Martinez, and Angela Johnson from Lily Pad. They gave us an overview of their programs working to end Human Trafficking and Child Abuse in our area. They are open 24/7 free of charge to assist with victims of sexual assault and child abuse. Thanks for all of your work in our community and the surrounding areas Lily Pad.
