Okay Savannah educator peeps. I am looking for a cadre educators to serve as substitute teachers exclusively for Savannah Classical Academy Charter School. Yes ...that’s right, we are the only public school open with students on campus in all of Savannah/Chatham county. Come sub at a safe, secure, and well run school with an awesome student body. SCA students are respectful and serious about their education! Sub here once and you’ll never want to sub anywhere else and you won’t tell your retired teacher friends because you’ll want all the sub jobs! What grade do you like to work with? We have them all. Yep that’s right, we are also the only K-12 public school in Savannah. Feel free to share this post. See more

GA Educators Push for Federal Dollars for Safe Schools, Elections SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Georgia educators are urging Congress to pass new legislation that boosts funding for state and local governments to keep schools and elections safe in the pandemic. Theresa Watson, president of the American Federation of Teachers in Savannah, said the HEROES Act, introduced in the House last month, would bring Georgia about $2 billion in education funding as the state faces major budget gaps f...rom the coronavirus shutdown. Watson said the funding would provide much-needed supplies and equipment to disinfect schools and prevent districts from laying off teachers, custodians and support staff. Theresa Watson, President Savannah Federation of Teachers "With that money, it will guarantee that everybody will be safe," she said, "and they won't have to think about furloughing, or have to think about how they're going to pay their bills or how they're going to eat." The $3 trillion legislation is facing opposition from Senate Republicans, who are concerned that the new spending would balloon the federal deficit to unmanageable levels. The bill also would provide money to improve Georgia's election process. Watson said the state's primary election two weeks ago is an example of why the funding is needed, as voters faced long lines and faulty voting machines. "It was a total disaster," she said. "When I went into the polling area myself, they had six machines but they only were using two, and it made the line very long. We were standing outside, but it just caused a real big problem." Access to voting has become a stormy issue in the Peach State following the 2018 gubernatorial race when GOP Gov. Brian Kemp narrowly defeated Democrat Stacy Abrams. That election was marred by claims of voter suppression and registration issues for many Black residents. The AFT report is online at aft.org, and the HEROES Act is at house.gov. FACT: Messages from voters are one of the most powerful ways to influence U.S. senators. And right now too many of our senators are standing with Mitch McConnel...l to block the HEROES Act, a vital second round of funding that would help keep our country working. That means our state legislators will be forced to cut everywhere - road funding, public safety, healthcare, schools - EVERYWHERE. Here’s the hard truth if we don’t get this funding now, it's hard to see how kids can return to school and parents can return to work. We CAN get back on our feet - but only if our communities get the same kind of support as big business. And that means we need the HEROES Act - legislation that has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives. You really can make a difference - messages from voters are one of the most effective ways of convincing politicians to do what’s right. Click now to tell YOUR senators to support the HEROES Act.
We must push for Federal Dollars for Safe Schools
