While many know that rice farming provided the economic engine for the antebellum economies of Georgia and the Carolinas, far too few know about the substantial role Africans played in that economic history -- or the remarkable history of rice cultivation in West Africa. Starting with the fact that although most Americans are familiar with a rice species cultivated in Asia, "sativa", there is another domesticated rice species, the African rice species called "glaberrima." T...he ancestors of the Gullah Geechee who hailed from the rice-growing regions of West Africa were much sought-after at the Charleston and Savannah markets because of their skill at growing this crop. Photo: Abandoned rice field at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel SC. You can visit Caw Caw Tuesday - Sunday. Repost from Heather Hodges, Former Executive Director, GG
Loved having the opportunity to show this wonderful couple from Miami around Savannah on their vacation! We talked about many stories connected with Savannah history and they had me laughing the whole tour. By the way they have been married for 50 years! I even saw them around town the next day and they said wow Savannah really is a small place to run into you again. It sure is y’all plus I’m always downtown. . . . .... . #savannahprivatetour #savannahhistorytour #toursavannah #bestoursavannah #savannahhistory #whattodoinsavannah #visitsavannah #savannahgeorgia #savannahfamilyfun See more
Wow! Definitely want to check this out soon y'all! "Not content with building a brick box, the architects instead opted for a Gothic, or King Arthur style, that resembles a medieval castle complete with parapets. The structure is considered the strongest in Savannah with 3-foot thick brick walls and a steel reinforced roof to keep the explosive materials safe. A peek inside the building reveals tar floors that still show the imprints of the gunpowder barrels that were stored there."
Reviews mean SO much!! Thanks y’all for taking the time to share your experience on the tour. It makes a huge difference for future bookers to see these personal stories from guests. This wonderful family took a private tour back in November 2020 and will be returning this March for another one! The first tour was so fun because they requested to stop at all sorts of sweet shops and toy stores around Savannah. It truly was a blast! Just a reminder that we absolutely love family tours. Happy to organize a private tour to focus specifically on what y’all want to do. . . . .... . . . . #savannahtours #toursavannah #savannahgeorgia #coffeeandchocolate #savannahwalkingtours #savannahfamily #whattodoinsavannah #visitsavannah #savannahga #savannahfun #savannahfamilyfun #savannah #lowcountrytours #lowcountrylife #georgiahistory #downtownsavannah See more

We absolutely LOVE having families on tours! The 10:30am Savannah History tour is an excellent experience for all ages! The young guy in the middle exclaimed at the end of this tour "that was SOooo fun" and it meant the world to hear that! Masks are required on all our tours per city ordinance and we are taking precautions to stay safe such as social distancing and giving tours outside. This is a good activity to enjoy while in Savannah especially during current times. Thank...s to this awesome family for joining last Sunday right after New Years. Loved the intriguing questions and senses of humor especially of the kids. Contact us to plan a private tour for your group! 912-483-2109 or email [email protected] . . . . . . #savannahtoursandtales #toursavannah #savannahtours #travelsavannah #savannahtravelguide #whattodoinsavannah #visitsavannah #savannahfamilytour #savannahhistorytour #southerntours #lowcountrytours #savannahfamilyfun #lovemyjob See more

Nope not a SCAD student but did graduate from the College of Charleston in 2011 studied Anthropology, Astronomy, and Dance. Yes I am using all of those studies now . Big fan of chocolate, live music, and local brews. Love having dogs on tours and guests who ask thoughtful questions! Began this company 2 & 1/2 years ago to focus on pre-colonial times.
