Fountain of dreams...

It’s been a remarkable year for me as a real estate professional. After a very challenging health crisis in 2017, I had to leave the best job I have ever had working with FranklinCovey. Sad as I was to move on from my FranklinCovey career, joy and gratitude are in my heart again as I have found that new voice in real estate at Engel and Völkers Savannah. I have always believed that one path prepares you for the next, if you just listen and open your heart enough.... I made a great choice and I am very fortunate to have been honored as one of the top 5 producers in my brokerage this year. My singular goal with any prospect or client is to determine how best to meet his, her or their needs EXACTLY. That’s the only win. And in me, you will find uncompromising character and competence always. I would love to work with you or someone you know who has a real estate need in Georgia. I promise that I will work hard and joyfully every step of the way.

Well - it’s time for Square post #4! We were headed for Whitefield Square, but we changed our plan, because the downtown was very quiet yesterday morning. We we...nt instead to a biggy - Wright Square! Wright Square was laid out in Savannah’s founding year - 1733 - and was the second square in the city. Originally, the square was named for Lord Percival, who was credited for naming the colony Georgia for King George II. The square was named later (1763) for James Wright, the third and last royal governor of Georgia. The center of the square was originally the tomb of Tomochichi, the Creek Nation chief who was James Oglethorpe’s partner and friend during the founding years of the city. When Tomochichi died in 1739, Oglethorpe had him buried with full honors. That was all well and good until 1883, when William Washington Gordon - a very prominent Savannah leader - needed a monument - and the city leaders decided to displace dear old Tomochichi ...uh oh.....monument controversy, sound at all familiar? Who swooped in and found a third alternative? Gordon’s widow! She was very upset about Tomochichi’s eviction, so Ms Gordon rallied a bunch of Colonial Dames to her cause. She obtained a huge piece of granite from Stone Mountain, got a plaque, and made a very cool new gravesite and memorial to Tomochichi. She honorably refused compensation for the effort, which was a problem as monument rules go. So, they paid her a buck anyway - and made it due on Judgement Day. With a wry smile, she replied that she would be busy that day. Gordon is a name, by the way, that we will come back to later...think Thin Mints.... Wright Square is my favorite because I go to the Lutheran Church of the Ascension - located on the NE corner. It’s been around a while as a congregation - since 1741 ...yep that’s right... and it is a marvelous community of faith! I will also be coming back with more on its history later. The square has also been called Courthouse Square and Post Office Square - and there are two courthouses (Federal and County) on the square and pictured.... Whew! Told you it was a biggy!!
