Here are some pics of picnic table I just finished. Scroll through them and you can see what I'm trying to accomplish with my woodworking. As you can see I used dimensional lumber, and it didn't take stain as well as I'd hoped. But I sanded, buffed, reapplied, sanded, buffed, I took my time (4 days) just on the finish. But I really couldn't be happier with the outcome. The table is a 5' long built for 4 people. I counter sunk and plugged all the carriage bolts on the top and ...the seat. My next table, Ill countersink and plug all bolts. The under side of the table was sanded to 120 grit, stained and 2 coats of poly. The seats and top were sanded to 220 grit, stained and 4 coats of poly. My biggest lesson learned is dimensional lumber (white board or white wood, whatever it is) sucks! I need to graduate up to cedar. I quoted $125 before I started the build. Next one will be closer to $200 (dimensional lumber), and probably $250 - $300 for cedar. Let me know what you think.
