The plot, characters, themes and values of the 1995 film CLUELESS are all based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma". Director Amy Heckerling was asked by Paramount to write a film for teenagers, and she instantly remembered the novel she read as a teenager. Winner of the 2007 Oscar for Best Costume Design, MARIE ANTOINETTE (2006) follows the life of the famous French queen known for her extravagant gowns and sky-high hairdos. But in real life, Marie, who boldly rejected the corset, used fashion as a means of self-expression in a political court where everything was about appearance. Join us to watch Kristen Dunst shine as the fashionista Queen Marie Antoinette on Thursday, January 30!

When asked how he got the idea for the film LA DOLCE VITA (1961), director Federico Fellini replied that one year the fashions made the women in Rome look like big flowers. Several extremely exaggerated costumes here and there in the film (such as two women guests' cloaks in the sequence of the party at the castle) point back to this original inspiration. The film went on to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design (Black and White). Join us on Friday, Jan. 17 to see all the fashions of the time in LA DOLCE VITA at 7 p.m.!

Did you know? The film LA DOLCE VITA contributed the term "paparazzo" to the language. The term derives from the character Marcello's photographer friend Paparazzo. Director Federico Fellini took the name "Paparazzo", as he explained in a later interview, from the name of someone he met in Southern Italy. "Paparazzi" is the plural meaning.
