Come learn about how to enhance your armor and character designs by looking at practical uses and history! A fun and loose talk before signing off until Spring 2020. Tomorrow (Friday) at 6pm, Hayman’s Hall room 111. Same ol’ song and dance as normal. Thank you all for being fantastic this quarter and we’ll be looking forward to some more action-packed meetings in the Spring.

Hey everyone after a long day at career fair we WILL still be meeting our normal time and place. Come detox with us and have some fun drawing and generating some new concepts! Hey everyone, this week we’ll be getting some time with the concept artists that will be here IN SAVANNAH! LIVE AND IN PERSON! for Comics Art Forum. Kristine Houston, who you may remember from our previous interviews will most certainly be there to answer questions about photobashing, portfolios, concept art and life at EA Games! We’re hoping to have some other familiar faces and we’ll be keeping you updated! It will be our normal meeting time of Friday at 6:00, and we’ll be announcing the room as soon as it’s confirmed, for now: plan for Haymans! Keep checking back within the day tomorrow for more info and please please please plan on attending this week! This is a super special opportunity for us to have industry pros here with us to chat!

This week we are talking CAREER FAIR and PORTFOLIOS. We want to make sure you all are as prepared as you can be, that you’re on the right track and that all your questions get answered. Which means we’ll be doing a small presentation but most of the next meeting we want to spend talking to you. Bring your portfolios, print or digital. Bring business cards, leave-behinds, anything you want to talk about! Need font suggestions? Logos and resumes isn’t your strong suit? Don’t kn...ow what to show first and what to leave out? We got you! Also to our underclassman, even though the career fair won’t necessarily mean too much to you, this is still a GREAT meeting to attend to get a headstart on what kind of portfolio to start building and we’ll look at anyones/everyone’s work so no fear, bring it all (or none!) it'll be a casual atmosphere amongst pals to just see what you all need! See more

This week we will be collaborating with SCADs Sculpting Club! It's going to be a super beneficial week with lots of information for both clubs! Using work our club members have submitted via Discord we're going to learn a bit about what happens down the pipeline once we turn in our concepts (and what we do to make the modelers job easier or a nightmare), then we're going to swap and share a bit about what it means to design and what goes into having a successful one! It's going to be a great time! Tomorrow, Hayman's Hall room 111 at 6pm!

SCAD Concept Art Club 05.11.2020

Hey everyone and welcome back! We’ll be kicking off the season with a demo you won’t want to miss! We have not one, but TWO of our fantastic officers collaborating to teach you some insider info on environmental concept art. From ideation, thumbnail generation, a little bit of AI algorithmic photo bashing techniques and then how to bring it on home to the final painting! We will be meeting in our home of Hayman’s Hall room, 111. It’s the room in the back by the stairs (you can’t miss it- Hayman’s is just one big circle!) with the big sign that says Concept Art Club. We will be meeting as per usual, Fridays at 6pm so there ya have it! Excited to see you all!

SCAD Concept Art Club 20.10.2020

Hey everyone! Tomorrow is our last meeting, and also our final contest of the quarter. Same ordeal as the last time, we have an awesome pool of art books that you have a chance to take home with you tomorrow November 8th Just like always, we’ll be in the Student Center Lobby which means you’ll be required to pack up that laptop, sling that tablet, drag out those sketchbooks, harness your sickest etch-a-sketch and bring your own supplies. Any supplies work, there is no discrim...ination against tradition media. That being said, you will be dismissed after the prompt is revealed to use the rest of time and the student center, as long as you’re back to show us before time’s up! However we only have the lobby reserved, which means while they’ll be there, we can’t guarantee anyone an upstairs workspace. Please keep this in mind, our digital artists, and consider a backup sketchbook. Our prompt follows the same format as last time, but after some of the critique we got last time, we'll be sure to spend a little more time thoroughly explaining the process at the beginning of the meeting: so please be on time! Hopefully ya'll have a bit of time to come take a break with us and work on something funner than finals

Howdy-ho everyone! Tomorrow November 1st, I am going to be giving my Illustrative Wizardry: How to Design demo thanks to your votes and suggestions. This talk is very much based on a talk from Lightbox Expo given by Riot Games splash Artist Esben Rasmussen. The topics discussed changed my perspective on a lot of things, it was a skull stretching experience and I hope to deliver the same kind of knowledge that was presented to me. I am incredibly excited to be able to share this talk with you guys, its going to be a big one.

SCAD Concept Art Club 21.09.2020

Tomorrow October 24th we will be meeting in the Student Center Lobby at 6:00 for our second interview of the quarter with Kristine Houston! It’s been a quarter welcoming back and getting some insight from our in industry alums! Please be prepared to act in the most professional manner as Kristine is very kind to be dedicating some time to us and has a lot of good information to share. She is currently working at EA as a concept artist and has previously interned at Bungie, he...lping out on games like Destiny 2! Check out her artstation! kannehouston.artstation.com Just to echo what I said the other week, we want to remind everyone of some of our interview etiquette at this time. While it is open forum due to the nature of the Student Center, we *really encourage* you be punctual and prepared, just as you would for a job interview or an in-person presenter. If asking a question, always be sure to thank the presenter for their time, and as a curtesy to the speakers, be it another student or the professional, please keep noise to an absolute minimum. Basically: be cool, be kind, be professional.

SCAD Concept Art Club 05.09.2020

Additionally this Tuesday, Oct 15, as a collaboration with the ITGM department, Boundary Bears and ResLife, we are having a *second meeting* being led by professor Parrish Baker. You’ll get a good overview and introduction to ZBrush, a modeling software which is a huge asset to us as Yanni had mentioned last meeting. Learning 3D software as a concept artist can help speed up your process, influence your understanding of form and light, and help you to make sense of the pipeline if you plan on going into animation or games. This meeting will be held in Montgomery Hall Room 204, at 8pm. Although it is a schoolday, we can not emphasize enough how much we endorse making it out for this great opportunity.

SCAD Concept Art Club 26.08.2020

Hello everyone! We at concept art club have a really eventful week lined up of you! The first announcement I’d like to make is that tomorrow October 11th we will be meeting in the Student Center Lobby at 6:00 for our first interview titled, Game Art, Portfolios and Life After SCAD with in Industry Alum Alyson Adams. Please be prepared to act in the most professional manner as Alyson is very kind to be dedicating some time to us and has a lot of good information to share. Sh...e is currently working as a game artist for NetherRealms and the Mortal Kombat series! We always recommend that you do a bit of research on the presenter, and come prepared with some possible questions should we have time for a Q&A after the interview. While she is a games artist, not a concept artist, this would be a great time to get some insight on the pipeline, industry and how to better utilize your time here at SCAD to prepare for things you might not expect after graduation. Here is her website: https://www.akaart.net/ We also want to remind everyone of some of our interview etiquette at this time. While it is open forum due to the nature of the Student Center, we *really encourage* you be punctual and prepared, just as you would for a job interview or an in-person presenter. If asking a question, always be sure to thank the presenter for their time, and as a curtsey to the speakers, be it another student or the professional, please keep noise to an absolute minimum. Basically: be cool, be kind, be professional.

SCAD Concept Art Club 18.08.2020

Hello everyone! The time has come for our first meeting! While some of our older members remember, we typically meet at Hayman’s Hall but due to the expected size of the first couple meetings, tomorrow’s meeting will be held in the Student Center Lobby! If you haven’t been in awhile, the student center is located at 120 Montgomery St, and is part of the silver route! This is just to allow breathing room, and hopefully we’ll be able to soon find some accommodation for this bac...k in our home of Hayman’s. Going forward this quarter, just keep your eye on the page for weekly announcements. I promise, there will always be an update the day before a meeting! But for now, we hope to see you tomorrow, **October 4th, Student Center Lobby at 6:00!** We’ll be sharing some info about the club, officers, the industry and going over some fun things like Inktober prizes. Typically, this initial meeting does not last too long, so the officer’s will also be staying after to answer absolutely any questions ya’ll may have.

SCAD Concept Art Club 31.07.2020

Hey guys! I hope your Summer is off to a good start. This is just an announcement to let everyone know we will be beginning the sketch dailies again this Monday. As it is Summer, there is not a prize for those participating- though we will reward whoever does the most sketch dailies starting in the Fall quarter. So until school starts back up, there will be no count on who does what, it’ll be purely for fun and (hopefully) some personal growth. We began this challenge as a wa...y to start helping you (and us) in forming a habit of pulling out the ol’ sketchbook at least once a day. Drawing daily (even if just for a couple minutes) is super healthy for ideating and a great practice to be in. It’s always a goal for us, and it’s a lot more fun and motivating to have a good group tackle it with. And as a bonus, our sketch daily channel acts as a great resource to refer to if you ever need some ideas or prompts to gotcha moving in the future! We really want to take this time off to really start reeling it back down to the basics. A lot of the weekday prompts will be exercise based, and we’ll be pulling from Drawabox.com which is a great resource full of advice and lessons that take you from learning how to draw good lines all the way up to applying construction to vehicles. Otherwise, there will be one prompt per weekend. Like last quarter, the weekend prompts will consist of a franchise where, like mini versions of our contests, you’ll have a chance to redesign or reimagine a prop, environment or character from said franchise. Unlike the contests however, we will be choosing some old and obscure franchises that are desperately in need of some redesigns- so you may have to do a bit of research. This is a great exercise to participate in as students because it really has you familiarizing yourself with different studios, and developing small portfolio pieces should that studio ever be looking to hire. People that are hiring love to know your familiar with their work, new and old, and that you’re capable of working within their world. The sketch daily prompts will be posted on our Discord server in the designated channel beginning Monday, June 17th. See you guys then!

SCAD Concept Art Club 21.07.2020

Hello everyone! Come join us today for the last meeting of Concept Art Club this quarter. I am going to be doing a demo about lifting linework in photoshop, we are going to be giving out the Into the Spiderverse Art Book for our sketchdaily winner, and Amanda made some really awesome resources on organizing your portfolio and is going to be talking about LinkedIn and networking. We hope everyone had a wonderful time with concept art club this quarter, and if you have any feedback or suggestions about what we could do better. We will be staying around after club to talk for a bit! See you guys today at 6pm Haymans Hall Room 111.

SCAD Concept Art Club 15.07.2020
