Saturday’s Art in the Park event begins monthly Chamber activity series The Donalsonville-Seminole County Chamber of Commerce with the help of a few volunteers ...will begin hosting a Third Saturday event this weekend on May 15th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The purpose of this community event is to provide a regular gathering in the downtown area. The long-term goal is for more citizens to use and appreciate our city park and spend more time downtown. And last but not least, to provide another activity that the people of our community can enjoy. Chamber President Sarah Avery commented, We are starting with a plein air art event. Plein Air simply put is painting outdoors. We are inviting local artists to come and set up their easels and paint for a few hours. We hope to expand this event as we go forward and perhaps add some vendors and/or a farmers’ market in one area. We will play music and furnish bottled water. The Corner Bistro will be open for lunch just a block away. If you would rather bring a sack lunch, that’s fine as well. We hope you’ll come by and check it out! More about a Plein Air event You may have heard others refer to painting en Plein Air, which is sometimes pronounced plain and sometimes pronounced plen. The phrase comes from the French word for outside. But enough about pronunciations what is plein air painting? Simply put: Plein air painting is the same as painting outside. Recently, thousands of artists nationwide have begun this practice by taking their supplies into small towns, large cities and urban areas to reflect the hustle and bustle of people in their daily lives, as well as to the lakes, countryside, streams, forests, and deserts to capture the magnificence of nature on canvas. Join the trend here in Seminole County this Saturday, May 15 at the Chamber’s Art in the Park event. The experience begins at 10 a.m.
