Meet our #PetoftheMonth, Buddy! This scared young pup has been in the shelter’s care since December 16th. Buddy was originally found wandering in a subdivision. A citizen then brought him into their home for a night before turning him in to us. Unfortunately, Buddy cannot tell us how he got here, he can't tell us that he lost his family or his family lost him. All he can tell us is that being in the shelter is terrifying, even though the staff does all they can to make it com...fortable. Meet our #PetoftheMonth, Gucci! This sweet boy is a special to the Douglas County Animal Shelter staff. He came into their care over 50 days ago. He was very underweight and staff could not figure out why he would not gain any weight. They put him on a feeding plan, ran bloodwork and a stool sample, completed several series of x-rays etc. and his weight continued to fluctuate. Gucci originally came to the shelter due to a welfare concern; Animal Control Officers were called a...bout a skinny dog running loose in the area. Upon arrival, Officers talked to Gucci’s owners about getting him the proper vet care that he desperately needed. Gucci’s owners stated that he would eat everything including rocks and metal off the ground instead of his dog food. They did not mention how long ago it started, but the staff could tell that Gucci had been in this state for a while. The owners elected to surrender Gucci to DCAS since they could not financially get him the vet care that he desperately needed. Gucci is a Greyhound Mix, neutered male, heartworm negative, around 2-3 years old. Gucci has now maintained a healthy weight and is available for adoption! Operation success! Sherrod & Bernard turned in our Toys for Tots box to Judge McClain himself. We are always beyond happy to help.

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard dedicates their mornings to feeding the homeless. Sherrod & Bernard collaborated with Judge McClain in providing 50 Hickory Farm gift packages for donation. Members of our team met the leader of the organization, who shared her hopes for bettering the community. No matter how cold it might have been, our hearts were warmed.
