Thanks to the Rotary Club of Augusta for inviting David Alalof of the Shield Club to talk Monday about the club and its positive impact in the community.
The Shield Club of Greater Augusta recently made a $500 donation to the North Carolina Troopers’ Association Caisson Unit, which serves states bordering North Carolina by providing a horse-drawn caisson for officers who have been killed in the line of duty. The Unit is staffed with N.C. State Troopers who volunteer their time to honor and respect the families and agencies of fallen officers. Since 2010, the NCTA Caisson Unit has honored seven officers in Georgia, which unfor...tunately included services for four of our local officers since August. While the average cost of transporting the Unit for each service often exceeds $1,800, there is no cost to the families or agencies of our officers. The importance of the work of the NCTA Caisson Unit cannot be overstated. If you would like to show your support for the women and men of law enforcement by contributing to this worthy endeavor, you can visit www.georgiasheriffs.org to make an online donation to support the NCTA Caisson Unit.
The Shield Club is pleased to announce the election of David Hogan as President, Haskell Toporek as President-elect, Rick Rhoden as Treasurer, Sam Nicholson as Secretary and Don Grantham, as Board member at large, effective Feb. 1. After serving ten years as Shield Club President, David Alalof will remain on the board as ex officio. Congratulations to Michael Carraway, CEO of ACHS insurance, as the newest elected member of the board.
Thanks to the Police Benevolent Association of Georgia.
The Shield Club of Augusta received a plaque today from Sgt. David James of the RCSD (far left), A.P. Carrier of the State Police Dept. and Patrick Cullinan of the Police Benevolent Association recognizing the club's work - especially the funding of the Critical Incident Support Team. What a tremendous, humbling and unexpected honor!
