Trail Markers 10/29/2020 Th Sharing is a necessary part of life on the trail. Sometimes we share food. Sometimes we share the load. The same is true for the Christian life. We share prayer requests. We share blessings Jesus has given us. Well, I want to share a Bible verse with you. Something that Jesus pointed out to me. In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 9, there is an encounter between Jesus and a blind man. There are several interesting tidbits to take away from this pass...age but the one I want to share with you today comes from verse 29. As Jesus is performing the miracle He says to the blind man, Because of your faith, it will happen. That is the way Jesus works. The success of Jesus in our lives depends on how much we believe in His ability. Earlier in this same chapter , two other people express their faith in Jesus by acting on their belief. In verse 18, a synagogue official whose daughter had just died comes to Jesus for His help. In verse 20, a woman who had been hemorrhaging for 12 years comes to Jesus for His help. All three of these are hopeless causes, so they came to Jesus as their only hope. Their desperation caused them to act on what they believed, that Jesus was capable. Acting on their faith made the difference in their lives. Sometimes our faith is not that strong. Sometimes our faith is weak. But that doesn’t keep us from being able to come to Jesus for help. In Mark 9, there is an encounter between Jesus and another Dad who comes to Jesus for His help. As Jesus is performing this miracle the Dad admits a weakness and says, I do believe; help my unbelief. Jesus met Him where he was, strengthened him, and brought him through to his miracle. Jesus does that same thing over and over. Yes, He works in our life based upon our faith. He also rescues us in our desperation, strengthening our faith, moving us along the trail to being all He is calling us to be. Enjoy the journey and share it with someone else. See more

Trail Markers 10/26/2020 M The other morning I was reading Jeremiah chapter 1 and I came to verse 11 & 12. I was curious about the connection. Those two verses formed a paragraph. They were a complete thought. So I took off down that trail to find out what the connection was. What was the parallel thought? Here is what I found out, The Hebrew word for watching in verse 12 is shoqed. And it sounds like the Hebrew word for almond tree in verse 11 which is shaqed. Grea...t, a language lesson! Hang on, here is what God wants us to know from this language lesson. When you can’t see the forest for the trees, remember this. God is the almond tree that is watching over you. In the middle of all of the confusion. God is watching over you. And He is watching over you for three reasons. 1) To guide you. 2) To protect you. 3) To provide for you. And He does that for several reasons. But the most important reason is so that you can give God Props. So you can honor Him. Then other people will want to have God watching over them as well. And we can enlist other travelers along God’s journey through life. Oh, and here is another thing about the almond tree and God. The almond tree is the first tree to bloom and the first tree to bear fruit. Which represents several things, but in this case, that 1) God is up way before you are. And as far as that though goes, there is never a time that God is not up. 2) God has His guidance and protection and blessing ready for you long before you need it. And these are more than enough for every situation you can encounter. So trust Jesus, the God who loves you and is who is watching over you. See more

Trail Markers 10/19/2020 M One of the nice things about being out on a trail is that, for the most part, time becomes inconsequential. When you find something y...ou can stop and admire it. Or consider it. Or be awed by it. We need to be able to do that same thing at church. Church, whenever you attend, should be that bend in the trail where things stop and you just notice God. Why do we go to Cades Cove, or the Sequachie Valley, or Blue Ridge? Because we anticipate something stunning. We need to do that same thing when we go to church. Sunday mornings can be hectic. Trust me, I know. No matter what kind of plans you make, or how prepared you are on the night before, the unexpected happens on Sunday morning. When you pull in to the parking lot turn those things loose. Join the other travelers along the trail of life and look for something stunning at church. Allow time to become inconsequential at church. Maybe it is a thought someone shares in small group Bible study. Perhaps it is a phrase in a song you sing in worship, He called me by my name. Or something your children share with you that they learned in their class. When you find that thing just stop and admire what God just said to you. Or what He showed you from the Bible. Consider it. Be awed by it. Take it in. Mark your place so you can come back to it later. So you can bring your friends with you as you consider what great things the Lord has done for you. But mostly, just take it in. See more
