T.G.I.#FloraFriday! We have an abundance of early winter blooms in our garden. One of our newest is this beautiful, fragrant Camellia japonica that was planted in memory of our late Board of Trustees member, Emmy Winburn. We think this lovely flower is a fitting tribute for a lovely person. #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah

T.G.I.#FloraFriday! Our Elephant Ears are showing off their beautiful blooms! The flowers of the Elephant Ear plant are a model of simplicity next to the oversized foliage surrounding them. They can be easy to miss underneath the colossal leaves, but they are worth the extra effort to find them! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah

T.G.I.#FloraFriday and happy All Hallows Eve! Here in our garden you'll find some not so spooky treats, like our Natchitoches Noisette rose. This lovely rose has a long history. It was found blooming in a cemetery in a long-abandoned 18th century fort in Natchitoches, Louisiana. No one had cared for the rose in over one hundred years, yet it still bloomed just as beautifully as ever. Was it being tended by a ghostly gardener? Or are they just extremely hardy plants? Perhaps both answers are correct! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah #AllHallowsEve

T.G.I.#FloraFriday! Our Cordyline is looking fine against a blue November sky! A few of our Cordylines are starting to grow spikes above the foliage, which will soon bloom with an abundance of tiny flowers. It is quite a showstopper! Come in and visit us soon, you never know what exciting things are going on in our garden! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah

Meet Maud {our 50 year mystery} + She washed up on a Yorkshire beach sometime in the 1860s from an unknown wreck and was then purchased by our founder Mills B. Lane, Jr. in 1965. Upon purchasing Maud Mills had a few questions - was she repainted? if so, was she repainted incorrectly? + Mills wrote to the broker, "could it be that she was painted wrong and really is a gentleman priest holding the Bible to his chest?" ... + Still an unanswered question - Maud, our figurehead with sideburns, large hands, rough face with a Rubenesque bust dressed in draping clothing with decorative carving. . T.G.I.#FloraFriday! Our Oakleaf Hydrangeas may be done blooming for the season, but the dried remnants of the past flowers are still beautiful! Many of the petals have stayed intact. These would look lovely in an Autumn floral arrangement! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah #Autumn

T.G.I.#FloraFriday! We have harvested some of our heirloom calico cotton from our gardens! Looking at it in the raw stage, it is hard to believe that this is what makes up so many of our fabrics, shirts, bedsheets, dish cloths, and so much more. Stop by our gardens soon and see what you can find growing here! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah

T.G.I.#FloraFriday! As we were strolling through our gardens, we noticed that there are some baby bananas growing on our Orinoco banana tree! It is most likely too late in the season for them to grow to full size, but it is still really cool to see! Stop by soon and see what you can find growing in our gardens! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah

T.G.I.#FloraFriday! Our outrageous Lycoris radiata, or Naked Ladies, are putting on a show right out in our garden! No need to shield your eyes though, Naked Ladies got their name from the fact that there are no leaves on their stems. Stop by soon and see these beauties in person! #ShipsOfTheSeaMuseum #HowOurGardenGrows #Savannah
