Smith's Studio of Photography 02.11.2020

Friends if you know of anyone who might be interested in my building, please pass this along. It would make a great business or living space close to all the downtown locations. It is priced to sell:) 3,000 sq feet and 2 baths. Thanks

Merry Christmas to my daddy in heaven. Christmas was his favorite time of the year and he loved the lights and red was his favorite color. I don't usually post this kind of stuff or even much about him since he died, but I feel he loved this time of year and he loved Christmas at the studio every year even after he retired. He always wanted to come by and see my set each year if he was physically able. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

I just want to remind everyone that I will be up at the studio one last Saturday Feb.20th from 10-12. EVERYTHING must go!! Come see what all I have to sell. It does not have to be a photography prop as many people found that out last Sat. at my last sale. There are so many things that I bought that were not even props, etc that I used to photograph with that would be great to use in various rooms or outside. I also have many things not related at all. I even am selling all the children's toys:) I REALLY do APPRECIATE all who came last week and it was so good to see many old faces and the smiles. I truly love each one of you and your families. Please share this and tell all you know!!Thanks:)

Well, no one but family probably remembers these, but actually I have had a few people that my daddy shot their weddings or portraits years ago who have messaged me that might! God is so good I have prayed I could find these as they were the only original two things my daddy started up here with! An old wore out squeaking dog, ( even then it was wore out) and a little bell that I heard him ring since I was a small child. He gave them to me when I first started with him and... told me to always keep them with the studio. As we remodeled several times, they became misplaced. Today while cleaning out, I found the little bell in the back of one of his file cabinets and the little dog pushed way back in my desk drawer. My dad bought the studio in March 1946 from a man named Tate who my dad worked for a year with no pay to be an apprentice. He worked and bought the studio for 7 years before he ever left to go to New York to photography school. I am sure finding many treasures to me here. The mean nothing to anyone else, but the world to me See more

Never thought it would be this hard up here today, I unplugged my lights for the last time to organize them and rolled down my motorized backgrounds to show for the upcoming sale. I was just thinking about all the hard work I put in, time and money over the years. My daddy never worked in the new addition part when I added on, but I have felt his presence all over the building today. I have stopped and cried more than I have worked and cleaned. Dale stopped by when he was in ...town and laid his hand on my shoulder and said "it's going to be ok". Somehow, I know it will, just not today. It's been hard making a change and although I wanted to, I tried to hang on up here for the last 5 or so years. I also just feel guilt or somehow that I might be betraying my daddy and all he built here after starting that March 1946. I don't know my plans yet for the building but I will keep you posted. If anyone knows of a renter or maybe even someone to purchase it, keep your ears open for me. I am not quite sure what to do with all my daddy's really big cameras, but I am sure I will find them a good home in my house. One may go on loan to a museum possibly but I am not sure if I can part just yet. I don't normally post much as you all know, but I'm just so filled with emotion and wanted to express my sincere thanks again to all my customers. I feel you are my family too See more

As most of you know by now, I have decided this year after 70 years this March to close the studio side of my photography of Smith's Studio. I have decided to pursue another career that I love with my passion of travel. I will continue to do my photography on site. I am going to have a sale of all props, office supplies, furniture, all remaining frames and equipment related to in-studio photography. The sale will be in Feb. I will be at the studio from 10-12 on 2 Saturday'...s to sell these items. If you would like to inquire about anything, please do so here. The sale will be on Feb. 14 and 21. BELOW IS A COPY OF THE LETTER I SENT TO CUSTOMERS WHO I HAD THE ADDRESS: Dear Friends: It is with a heavy heart that I am sending out this letter to my friends and loyal customers. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to close the studio side of my business. With the advancements in technology over the last ten years, my business has changed dramatically compared to the time before digital photos and camera phones. The business has been very good to my family for many decades, but with changes in technology and culture, a lack of business has occurred outside of seasonal months. In the meantime, I have returned to my previous passion as a flight attendant. Prior to Smith’s Studio, I worked as a flight attendant and have recently accepted a position with Southwest Airlines. With this position, I will also be able to do some part-time photography outside of the studio. I appreciate what each and every one of you has meant to Smith’s Studio and me over the years. I have been fortunate to be able to photograph many of your weddings, children, and events that will be great memories for me. Thank you for all of your business, I am truly grateful for it. Sincerely, Susan S. Ramsey See more
