Since all the shower and laundry facilities for the homeless are closed in the Savannah area, this past Thursday our homeless clients received a hygiene bag. Thanks to our generous donors we were able to provide: toilet paper, baby wipes, laundry detergent pods, gift cards to a local laundry mat and other personal hygiene products.

Due to the Mayor Van Johnson's shelter-in-place directive, our soup kitchen will be closed until further notice. On a positive note, we were able to hand out sack lunches Thursday and Friday last week and today, Tuesday, March 24, each of our clients received 2 grocery bags, for a total of 330 bags, filled with food items that should last them several days! The crisis intervention services will still be open by appointment only. We are asking clients to call in and make an ...appointment. A case manager will handle everything over the phone so there will be no physical contact. We still need your help! During this extraordinary time, with so many people being out of work, the food pantry will be in high demand. If you are making a trip to the grocery store, please consider picking up food and hygiene items to donate for the pantry. We will have bins outside the door where you can place your donations. Please call and let us know you are dropping items off so we know they are there and can bring them inside. IMPORTANT: We are only accepting food and hygiene items. We are unable to accept clothing at this time. Above all we ask for prayers for the homeless and the poor. We will be praying for all of our generous donors. Please be safe and we will see you on the other side of this crisis!

Due to the public health emergency declared by Governor Brian Kemp and the CDC recommendation to limit gatherings to 10 people or less, we have had to make some changes here at the Social Apostolate. Effective immediately, the thrift store is closed for sales. Donations of clothing and household items will not be accepted. For now, the Crisis Intervention Office and Shower Program will remain open, but clients will be seen by appointment only. Please contact us (912) 233-...1877 to schedule an appointment. Although we are no longer able to serve meals in our dining room, we would still like to continue to feed the homeless of downtown Savannah by providing them with a bag of food they can use to prepare lunch at their campsite, but we need you help!... We are in need of sliced bread, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned soup, canned spaghetti or ravioli, crackers, peanuts, and bottles of water. Donations of food can be dropped off at the Social Apostolate Monday Friday 8:30 4:00.

#ALERT - The City of #Savannah will not shut off anyone’s water service for nonpayment through March 31, 2020 due to the spreading threat of COVID-19 #coronavir...us. We will re-evaluate the situation at that time and make adjustments as conditions warrant. With everything else going on during these uncertain times, access to water is the last thing any Savannahian should be thinking about. As we are in a public health emergency, unfettered access to water is paramount to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading.
