Meet our Executive Chef- Chef Brad! Brad Menhorn joined the Somerby team in January of 2020. Although he calls Atlanta his hometown, he was born in Okinawa, Japan. He respectfully refers to his parents as his strongest influencers in life. But he gained much of his strength growing up with 5 siblings all girls. Married to wife Magdalena since 2007, his proudest accomplishment is being father to 5 amazing kids of his own 4 boys and 1 girl. Brad got his first job at... the age of 15 cooking for a local Waffle House. Brad attended Mceachern High School in Powder Springs and then served in the US Marine Corps as an artillery man. With a gift and love for cooking, Brad furthered his education in the Culinary Arts program with Marietta’s Chattahoochee Technical School. Brad reached a personal goal of becoming a Sous Chef at age 25, then rising to the position of Executive Chef. Some residents of Somerby have recognized Brad from their dining experiences in area country clubs. Giving credit to his training with some amazing Chefs, he has climbed the culinary ranks through his successes with Dunwoody Country Club, Capital City Club, Atlanta Athletic Club and the Standard Club. In 2012, Chef Brad was rewarded as Employee of the Year while serving as Banquet Chef of Capital City Country Club. In developing his skills as well-rounded chef, Brad chose the senior living path as he sought a new kitchen style and guest experience. He has found his biggest challenge is in blending the preferences of the many different cultures of Somerby residents to make everyone happy with every meal. Faced with the unexpected Covid virus dining restrictions and requirements, Brad has maintained his vision to exceed expectations. What he enjoys most about Somerby are his interactions with the residents in an environment that has enhanced his own quality of life. Brad plans a long future with Somerby and our parent company, Bridge Senior Living. His ultimate goal, may be 20 years away. Brad hopes to open his own restaurant and retire at 55. His 5 kids will be in charge by then.
