Finally got around to opening up the new Dutchman 1541N forged axles, narrowed 3.5" on each side, for my new rear end setup. Now time to get back on narrowing up the housing.

In goes the Keith Neal built 4l60E with a Circle D 2800 stall converter in the daily beater. Should help the little 4.8 get up and go out of the hole a little better.

Going through old pictures and saw these from back when I was still gathering the major parts for my 6.0. Its crazy how a little paint and powdercoating can completely transform the look of an engine.

Here is a little follow up on yesterday's rear end post. Got one side cut. Still need to clean up the cuts and do the 45 degree chamfer for welding, but everything looks good so far. I always cut to the inside of my marker lines, so the cut can be cleaned up and worked down to be right on the money. Initial measuring after the cut from flange to flange shows it being 1/16" over what it should be. Measuring the thickness of what is left of the two cut lines is 1/16", so work b...oth of those down till the cut lines are gone and the new length will be dead on 3.5" less. The unit is jigged up from the inside on a 1.25" solid steel machined bar and the billet spacers that take the place of the bearings on the differential side and outer housing side. The big magnet is just to level out the couple of thousandths play from the bar to the alignment spacers. See more
