FRIDAY MORNING... The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for much of north and central Georgia. * From 7 PM EST this evening through Friday morning * Widespread rainfall will spread across the area beginning tonight and will shift southeastward through the day Thursday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts over 2 inches are expected. Previous rounds of rainfall have kept soils wet and saturated which will more easily allow for runoff and potential flash flooding. * Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and inundate fields, roads, businesses and other property. Roads may be closed. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to Flash Flooding. Flash Flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

BLACK ICE LIKELY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING OVER PORTIONS OF NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA INCLUDING THE ATLANTA METRO... Rainfall associated with an approaching cold front will be moving through the region this afternoon and evening. As the rain exits the region this evening cold air will filter into the area quickly behind the rainfall. In addition...relative humidity values are expected to remain high over night. As a result of the temperatures quickly dropping below freezing and relative humidity values remaining high...many area roads and bridges will not have an opportunity to dry off and subsequently have an opportunity to freeze overnight and into the early AM resulting in areas of black ice.

Recently Plumco Plumbing donated bicycles to the Sheriff's Office. Due to their generous gift, we were able to distribute these bikes to several community organizations. This year has been a challenge for all of us, but the community support has been tremendous!. Thank you to all that donated or gave their time in assisting us in giving back to the children of Spalding County.

The computers at all polling locations across Spalding County are down. The problem is being worked on and hopefully will be resolved quickly. Until the issue is fixed, paper ballots are being used at all locations.

Ok, folks, we need your assistance in getting the information out there to everyone. Daily, we take reports of people who have been scammed out of money. The types of scams vary and include: the Social Security notice, extended car warranty, warrant for your arrest, Canadian lottery, inheritance in your name, etc. Another scam that people fall for at a surprising rate involves selling of an item where the buyer gives the seller a check in an amount above the purchase price.... In this scam, the buyer asks the seller (target) to cash their check and keep an amount above the agreed-upon price then give the buyer the remaining amount. Well you probably guess what happens next - after the buyer is long gone with the item and the cash, the seller learns that the check is counterfeit, so the seller has been scammed out of the item they were selling AND their own money. Please be aware of all of these possible scams and talk to your friends and family who may not be on social media. See more
