Happy Thankful Thursday! This week, I’m thankful for letters from home~ Every single day since I’ve been in the service, for over five year, I’ve gotten two letters a day in the mail addressed to Airman First Class or Senior Airman N J Cammaroto.- One from my Grandmother, who’s 96, and one from my Aunt Marietta, who just recently went to brighten up heaven. The family tradition started when my grandmother would write a love letter everyday to my Grandfather, who... was fighting the NAZIs in Europe during WWII. She, and my Aunt Ma, kept up that tradition. When I was in training at Sheppard AFB, I would BOOK IT to the post office after formation to be first in line so I could get my letters! Each one tells a story or a memory, like the first time my grandma saw an airplane or my Aunt talking about VE Day in Brooklyn, or just a simple I love you. Yesterday’s talked about the first time my grandmother tried celery As an Italian #immigrant family, that was new to them! These letters are priceless to me, and ALWAYS the brightest light of my week

When I was a Flightline Crew Chief, every time I would send my aircraft up I’d salute the pilot and sign V C with my hand- why? This hero. This is my Great Uncle, 1st Lieutenant Vincent H. Core, who was killed in World War Two flying his P-47 THUNDERBOLT fighter plane. 19 years older, 90 days, and he was off to (literally) save the world. His memory & legacy motivates me every day to remember the boots I fill. His sacrifice, while tragic, fills me and my whole family with pride. Who motivates you?
