From the Executive Director . 2020 SUBMARINE VETERANS OF WWII MEMORIAL WEEK It is with deep sadness that we must announce that our annual WWII Submarine Veterans of WWII Memorial Week in the fall held here in the Kings Bay area has been canceled. This would have been our 32nd year of hosting this incredible event in November, with our partners Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay and our local TRIDENT Chapter of USSVI (United States Submarine Veterans Inc.).... After consultation with the CO and CMC of the Subase, our Local Host Hotel, and our local SubVets Chapter, we collective have made this decision to keep everyone safe. The SUBASE as of right now cannot have us aboard the installation, so 6 of the main things we do each year, Sub Tours, BBQ at Triplex, Dinner at TTF, Tours of TTF, Lunch at the Galley and the Memorial Ceremony itself at the WWII Pavilion in front of TTF cannot be held as usual. Additionally, our Host Hotel has concerns about having a large crowd like we normally have in the Hospitality Room, due to the possible spread of COVID. For those of you who normally attend, some of whom have been coming for decades, we certainly will miss seeing you this year. All and all, this is the right thing for us to do to keep everyone safe. It breaks our hearts, because attending this event each year is so important to so many of our veterans, especially our WWII Vets and their families, and our WWII Veteran Widows. As you know from being here so many times, we collectively put our hearts and souls into making it the best week of events as possible for our Veterans, their families, and guests. Our hearts are heavy, knowing that some of our WWII Veterans who would come this November, may not still be with us next year. We will be having some sort of Memorial Ceremony here on November 5th as scheduled. We are not sure what that will look like just yet, but we know it will be small with limited personal in attendance. But we hope it will either be broadcast live on Facebook and You Tube and/or we will have a Video Recording of it available to our submarine veterans and guests who normally attend. That is the best we can do this year, and we appreciate your understanding. Our goal is to get through this crisis together as safely as possible, and next year, get back together to celebrate our submarine force, our veterans and remember and honor those who gave all for our nation. We look forward to seeing you back here with us next year. Mark your calendars, as the 2021 Memorial Week is scheduled for November 3rd through 7th. Please stay safe out there, practice proper safety protocols the CDC, WHO and other health organizations and experts have told us will keep us safe and stop the spread of this horrible virus, and please, please, please . wear a mask to keep yourself and others safe and alive. Keith Keith F. Post, Executive Director St. Marys Submarine Museum Inc.

FLAG DAY 14 JUNE In the United States Flag Day is celebrated today. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution, passed on June 14, 1777, stated: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." This design was created by Franc...is Hopkinson, a Continental Congressman from New Jersey and a consultant to the design of the Great Seal of the United States. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on August 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. Title 36 of the United States Code, Subtitle I, Part A, CHAPTER 1, 110 is the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the president's discretion to officially proclaim the observance. To all our men and women serving in uniform spread out across the globe, on the ground, in the air, on and under the seven seas, we salute and say Thank You for keeping the flag flying free. BZ to all!

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR During this time of incredible crisis in our nation, it is still import that we pay tribute to people who have led exceptional lives, who have touched many by their service, and who walked this earth with humility and a servant’s heart. Today, I am taking a moment of personal privilege to share with you all one of the men in my life who did just that and who lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s just over a week ago. I learned of his passing yest...Continue reading
