Here is a little video about natural mosquito habitat in the winter. If you have any wooded areas near you home this is something to look for. Enjoy Your Outdoors!
Mosquito Meter! Although not significant right now, when we see this kind of activity in the middle of winter it means A LOT mosquito activity when the weather warms up. Mosquitoes will be out laying eggs so this is a great opportunity to reduce their breeding areas by dumping out anything that holds water. Its also a great time to have gutters cleaned and repaired. In an effort to reduce the mosquito population in the area, I am considering importing thousands of these bats and setting them up in peoples yards. Any volunteers?
2 turtle rescues in one day! Watch out for the moving speed bumps...

https://youtu.be/dGNZA8f85u0 Great video from the CDC in 1945 about the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti is a mosquito that can spread the dengue fever, Chikungunya and yellow fever viruses, and other diseases. How do you know if you have them? They are one of 2 closely related mosquitoes that bite during the day. (our other common mosquitoes bite early morning and evening) What's in this video still holds true today- empty water out of everything! Have questions about mosquitoes and other outdoor insects? Feel free to give us a call at 803-474-0002 www.stokesmosquito.com Enjoy Your Outdoors!

Murder Hornet! 10 Things you need to know- Number 1- There is NO hornet called a Murder Hornet- more fake news to invoke fear. What you need to know about the Asian Hornet recently found in the US.
We are approaching "Mole Cricket Management" time. This is a great article from Clemson University Entomology Department. Some basic take-a-ways- 1.Test lawn with 1-2 ounces of dish soap in 1 gallon of water and pour over a 2 SF area to see if you have mole crickets (they will come up within a couple of minutes). 2.The time to treat is June/July (late June is best). 3. May need to retreat in August 4.Rotate chemical class every treatment to avoid resistance build up. 5.If you treat your own lawn PLEASE follow the label. If you have questions or need help with this (or and outdoor insect problem) give me a call at 803-474-0002. Enjoy Your Outdoors! www.stokesmosquito.com Follow us on Facebook
Something I think we can ALL agree on!
I have had a lot of questions about the "Crane Fly" because this is their most active time and people are seeing them around their home. This is that thing that looks like a giant mosquito bouncing off your walls. Many people call it a "Mosquito Hawk" but it has nothing to do with mosquitoes. The adults are attracted to light so most people see them around doors or in the house. If you want more information or want to get them out of your yard give Stokes Mosquito a call or text at 803-474-0002 or message us on Facebook. Enjoy Your Outdoors!
