In an event of an emergency, Monroe County officials issue alerts through CodeRED, a high-speed notification solution. The CodeRED system allows messages to be ...quickly delivered to targeted areas of Monroe County or to the county as a whole. On Thursday, Aug. 13, Monroe County will be conducting a performance test of the system at 10 a.m., contacting everyone in Monroe County who is currently in the emergency database. Receiving a test message will assure that residents will receive a message when an actual alert is issued by Monroe County officials. Residents who have not enrolled to receive emergency CodeRED notifications, or did not receive a test message should immediately visit the Monroe County website and click the CodeRED logo to enroll. No one should automatically assume that Monroe County emergency officials have your contact information, Monroe County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Chief Matthew Jackson said, urging all individuals and businesses to visit www.monroecoga.org and click on the CodeRED link. Those without Internet access may call Monroe County EMA at 478-993-1633 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to supply their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers can be entered as well. CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes such as in the case of weather warnings or missing persons. Any questions should be directed to Monroe County EMA at 478-993-1633.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office and Tommy Campbell's Collisi...on Center are partnering with the Rescue Mission to bring much needed food to our communities. The Farmers to Families Food Box Program is a government sponsored program in response to COVID-19 and is also sponsored by the USDA & Dept. of Faith Based Initiatives. As of right now, food will be available at different locations around Monroe County for pick up every Wednesday from July 8th - August 5th. Each location will be a "drive through, no-contact" pick-up and 500 boxes will be given out. Please note that only 1 (one) box will be given per vehicle. Each box contains enough food for 1 - 2 meals and a gallon of milk. As we all deal with the current situation around us, many have asked how they can help those in need. What a blessing to be able to offer assistance to others d...uring stressful or difficult times. Service such as this is something those in public safety do daily, and one of the reasons they are held in such high regard in our communities. I wanted to ensure everyone how hard your county officials, employees, and departments are working to assist in the community, all while following the CDC and DPH guidelines for safety during this COVID-19 situation. Be sure to "like" and follow the various Monroe County agencies on social media, such as the sheriff's office, board of commissioners, fire/ems, EMA, board of education, and also state agencies like DPH and GEMA. They are all posting and updating, many times daily, if not several times a day, to ensure you have the best and latest information on how to protect you, your family, and the community, including how you can assist when the need arises. After several recent meetings with local and state emergency management officials, I wanted to remind and ensure a few key points to follow, and information to keep in mind: 1. Stay Home unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. 2. Social Distancing. (means no hand shakes, nor hugging). 3. Wash Hands. 4. Disinfect common areas with disinfectants. 5. Sick persons should call their care providers for advice prior to walking into the clinics. The virus can be spread by person to person contact. (Elderly and Chronically ill patients are at higher risk.) 6. It is RECOMMENDED by the CDC and DPH to avoid large social and church gatherings. 7. Not everyone needs to be tested, consult your Physician if you have questions about that. 8. Cough, fever, and shortness of breath are the most common signs and symptoms. Monroe County Emergency Services has reached out to all Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Monroe County Health Department, Monroe County Hospital and Medical Facilities to ensure they are kept updated on the most current information and offered assistance to anyone in need. In addition, Monroe County Emergency Services has offered assistance to the Monroe County Board of Education to assist in providing meals. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated on changes as necessary. Please continue to check on those with special care needs who may live alone, such as elderly or those with special medical conditions. Coming together and caring for each other as a community will make all the difference as we all work through these challenges ahead. Most Sincerely, Brian Meadows, NR-Paramedic MEM Interim Public Safety Director/ Emergency Management Director Monroe County Emergency Services
After careful consideration and much discussion with local leaders, the 2020 Forsythia Festival is suspended until further notice. This decision comes after Fo...rsyth Mayor Eric Wilson formally recommended the cancellation of the Festival. It is my recommendation that the Forsythia Festival not be held this weekend due to concerns for the spread of COVID-19. This recommendation comes after consulting with health officials and local officials throughout the day today. The Forsythia Festival is a much-anticipated event for many including me and it is not a decision that I make lightly. Eric S. Wilson, Mayor - City of Forsyth Earlier today, Governor Brian Kemp encouraged people to follow the recommendations of their local governments. He also advised people to follow the CDC guidelines and to avoid massive crowds. This was not an easy decision, but the safety and well-being of our community is our highest priority. We thank you for your understanding and support. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks and will make a decision about whether we can hold the Festival later this year.
We had a great time tonight working on a little Spring design. April 7th will be the next paint night at the 1823 Artisan Gallery
Just a friendly reminder to drive safe and use precautions. The roads are extremely slick with all the rain and we have seen quite a few accidents because of th...is. As a rule of thumb...if your wipers are on, your lights should be on. Our citizen's safety is our primary concern! Please be careful out there today. See more
