Did you know? On Dec. 10, 1982, 38 years ago, today, the nuclear powered USS Ohio (SSBN-726), first Trident-Class submarine, returned from its first deterrent patrol. Years later, USS Ohio was converted into a guided-missile submarine. The USS Ohio is the lead ship of the Trident Class. Read more about this submarine’s history below #SubmarineForce #SSBN #SSGN

Today, we remember and honor those who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor 79 years ago. A special thank you to Pearl Harbor survivor Chief Fire Controlman (retired) Dick Henry, who recently turned 100 years old, for being here at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay today.

U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, Ellen. M. Lord and Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Dr. James H. Anderson, visited Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, Oct. 22. Kings Bay was the fourth stop on the undersecretaries’ tour of strategic-deterrent installations, including Minot Air Force Base, Whiteman Air Force Base, and the Pantex Ordnance Plant. During this trip, we had the opportunity to see the work of our teams and partners... in North Dakota, Texas, and Missouri and needed to include a look at the sea-based leg of the nuclear triad, said Lord. USS West Virginia #SSBN736 (Gold) held a change of command onboard Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, today. Cmdr. Jay Bijeau was relieved by Cmdr. Erek Kasse as commanding officer of the ship’s Gold crew during a ceremony on base. Fair winds and following seas, Cmdr. Bijeau and congrats on a job well done!
