HORRIFIC: 2 Buena Vista Businesses Destroyed In Massive Fire On 6th Avenue The buildings that housed Baxter Paint and Buena Vista Floral & Gift are no more aft...er a fire that burned for hours caused the building to collapse. Fire Fighters from multiple counties, including Sumter, Webster, and Buena Vista, worked hand in hand to put out flames that had swallowed buildings in Buena Vista. No word yet on what caused the fire, but officials say the fire started at Baxter Paint Store around 8:00 pm and then spread to another building, before finally being contained. THE DIME STORE, A BUSINESS IN THE VICINITY, ISSUED A WRITTEN STATEMENT ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE: "PRAYERS FOR BUENA VISTA TONIGHT AS SEVERAL OF OUR NEIGHBORING BUSINESSES WERE LOST IN A TRAGIC FIRE. ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US AT THE DIME STORE, OUR HEARTS AND OUR PRAYERS GO OUT TO OUR NEIGHBORS AND TO THE DOZENS OF FIREFIGHTERS FROM SEVERAL COUNTIES WHO ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES TO HELP SAVE THESE BUSINESSES TONIGHT." Strength comes over time, and often by adversity. I'm told this is the largest White Oak in Georgia. When it was younger, the land surrounding it was a dairy fa...rm, and the cows trampled the ground over it's roots. This compaction gave the tree the anchoring it needed to withstand wind, and all kinds of weather. The cows also provided natural fertilizer as an extra boost to grow and expand past what is common. On this Monday, if you feel pressed down, or like you are getting dumped on, remember this mighty oak, and know adversity can create the greatest advantage for strength to thrive. That which surrounds you, maybe frustrating or annoying you, may be the very thing that propels you forward. See the blessing! See more
