Share: COMMUNITY GARDEN Youth Power Community Garden BY: Joan W Atlanta, GA HOW WOULD YOU USE THIS GRANT TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY? The Youth Power Garden is located in a USDA-designated food desert. For the past four years, UHI has partnered with the only grocery store in this community and built a raised-bed teaching garden in their parking lot; but in February 2016 the store was foreclosed and we lost our garden site. We have the opportunity to re-build our garden in a new site, which provides many advantages such as proximity to public transportation, the Asa Yancey Neighborhood Health Clinic, and the Northwest Youth Power daycare and youth center. We plan to have the same opportunities available at the new garden siteeducation on organic gardening, nutritious foods, healthy cooking methods, and sustainable gardening methods. With our proximity to the children and youth at Northwest Youth Power, we plan to expand our education to youth through summer gardening boot camps. We give all of the harvest from this garden to community members who participate in our educational programs and work in the garden.

Are you free this Saturday? We will work at the new garden site this Saturday starting at 1:00 pm (1225 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy, NW, Atlanta GA 30318, right beside the Grady Asa Yancey Neighborhood Health Center). We will construct more raised beds and reconstruct our greenhouse on the new site, and we’d love your help! Feel free to message us for more information.

If you are free tomorrow afternoon, please come by the garden from 1 - 5 pm to help us move the garden to its new location!
