We stopped by on Mother's Day after a trip to Michael's because that's how we roll. You need to understand -- my mother hate raw fish. She will not eat tuna unless it's been cooked near to oblivion. She wanted nothing to do with this place, so I ran in to order while she grabbed food from a restaurant across the strip. I went through the line with the help of a very friendly, helpful staffer and sat down to enjoy the fresh, delicious food. I felt rewarded. I felt fulfilled. My mother came in with her conspicuous brown bag and sat across from me. She eyed my bowl with genuine suspicion. "Can I try that?" "Sure" I said, eager to get her to try something unburnt. "But those red bits are raw tuna." "I want to try it." "You don't like raw fish." "But it looks delicious." And friends, it did. Their tuna is just the right firmness, and a glorious soft ruby in color, and I am having feelings as we speak. Sweet Tuna indeed. So I scooped up a bit of the sauce, some tuna, a piece of marinated beef just in case. And she took her bag off the table and put it on the floor." "How does it work?" she asked, "I want one." So the employee who helped me walked her through the process, she sat down, and tucked in. A few minutes passed in relative quiet. I wasn't sure what planet we'd warped to, but she wasn't picking anything out. Then, "Oh my gosh." In my mother's lexicon, this can be promising or The Worst Thing Ever. I sat. I waited. "I have a new favorite food." So, what I'm trying to say is thanks, Sweet Tuna. You have converted my mother to the fresh side. You are both delicious and magical.
