SOUTHWEST GEORGIA CHAPTER of Quail Forever announces: The 2021 Georgia Quail Invitational (GQI) is POSTPONED Due to Coronavirus Concerns. The Southwest Georgia Chapter of Quail Forever and the 2021 Georgia Quail Invitational committee have decided to postpone the 2021 Georgia Quail Invitational event ( It was to be held January 28-30, 2021) due to safety concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This difficult decision was made out of an abundance of caution for our vo...lunteers, hunters, property hosts, sponsors and our community. The current COVID-19 situation is too unpredictable to insure our participants the quality quail hunting experience they have come to expect. We will continue to monitor the situation and health professional recommendations. As soon as the current situation improves, the committee will announce a future date for the event. Hunters who have paid all or part of their hunt package may request a refund or we will apply the payment towards the rescheduled Georgia Quail Invitational event. You may contact Sandy Gregors at [email protected] or 229-317-4760 or Robert Chester at [email protected].

I haven't met Durrell Smith yet but I have read a number of his articles. This is a good one if you have 7 or 8 minutes and your favorite libation to reflect on public land, how it belongs to EVERY Georgian and how we can devote our time to improving it.

Take a look at your invasives. They out compete our native plants and grasses. Might be time to eliminate some of these.

The weather was perfect for the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) 5th Annual Youth Hunt in Albany, GA. The morning safety course was followed by shotgun familiarization and breaking some clay targets. Before lunch Jackie Entz and Billy Shores brought their birds of prey and gave a great class on falconry. Chehaw's ambassador brought a Blue Indigo snake that got everyone's attention. The new hunters spent the afternoon behind the bird dogs learning to quail hunt. They then had the opportunity to learn how to clean this delicious six ounce bird. A huge thanks to all the Volunteers who have made this possible for five years! Forever Forward!

Another reason the gopher tortoise is a keystone species to our South Georgia ecosystem.
