It’s almost #CollegeColorsDay!!! At Learfield IMG College (yes, in addition to my role as an adjunct Professor, I am a sports attorney with LIMGC) we celebrate College Colors Day like it’s a holiday...well because it is!! This year, College Colors Day is September 4th and this year’s theme is United We Fan. As a black woman and PROUD HBCU grad, it is SUPER important for me to share with my colleagues the importance and rich histories of historically black colleges...and to s...how them all of the black excellence that has been born of these institutions especially from THE institution that epitomizes the STANDARD of excellence, THE Hampton University. That is why I couldn’t miss this opportunity to bust out my HU Gear and REPRESENT. Hey Friends! . Last month, Hampton University made the decision to cut its Golf Program as well as the athletic scholarship awards to the student athletes participating in the program. As a result of these cuts, there have been 9 students (5 women and 4 men) affected who have lost approximately $245,000 in scholarship money for the upcoming school year.... To aid these students, the Hampton University Golf Team Alumni have partnered with the Women in Golf Foundation to 1) raise awareness surrounding the loss of these programs; and 2) establish a scholarship fund with the hopes of raising funds to support the current HU Golf Team students who have lost their scholarships. #sydsays Listen Y’all: I don’t know who was more excited about the first day of class today....me or me!!!! Being given the opportunity to come back and teach sports law at my alma mater means more to me than you could possibly imagine. Social media has a way of highlighting the yes’es without simultaneously highlighting the no’s. . . For me to get to this yes, I heard no dozens of times!! I heard no when I was waitlisted and almost didn’t get the opportunity to at...tend EMORY as a law student. I was told no when I didn’t graduate in the top 1/3 (or top half ) of my class...didn’t participate in moot court, mock trial or journal. I was told no when I didn’t get the big law firm job...or THIS position the FIRST time I applied. But all those no’s led to this yes, on this day and for that I am eternally GRATEFUL and ridiculously excited. I worked hard for my yes and I challenge you all to continue to work hard for yours. #sydsays Listen Y’all: This last year in my 20’s y’all had been ugly, beautiful and AMAZING all at the same dang time lol. I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of immense personal and professional growth that I have experienced in the last year. There is SO MUCH that goes on behind the scenes that you all don’t see. So much that goes into making it all look so easy and seamless. I took a lot of L’s to get here, but man it feels so good to be here working in my dream... job as a sports lawyer at IMG College AND also increasing my territory as an adjunct professor at Emory Law School! . . This has hands down been the proudest and most cherished win of 2019, being offered a chance to teach a sports law course at my alma mater, Emory Law.....an opportunity that I was rejected from 4 years ago and am now honored to stand in the full joy and glory of this moment. . . Thank you all as always for your continued love and support. I quite literally have angels out there pushing and pulling for me even when I don’t have the strength to keep moving forward myself. #sydsays Listen Y’all: The struggle in this season has been so REAL! But the comeback even more certain. Story time: Earlier this year I set a goal to buy myself a new phone, laptop and car. However, due to some unfortunate events beyond my control, I got scared and decided to put really any major financial decisions on hold. But ya know what even in my place of fear and smallness God had pushed and stretched me not to put my life on hold regardless of the circumstance. So ya... know what? My car and computer died in the same week and I was FORCED to step outside of my comfort zone to reclaim what I had lost and so much more.
