There is an abundance of misinformation out there even coming from national newscasts. It's truly sad that the media is not checking facts before accusing innocent businesses of wrong doing. To the best of our knowledge the following info is correct at this moment. Things to know about EIP payments:... If you received a direct deposit refund on your 2018 or 2019 tax return: IRS used your last known bank account info. Unfortunately, in SOME cases they used what we call "bank product" accounts. These are temporary accounts that are set up when you request a bank product at the time you filed your return. This would include things like asking for tax preparer fees to be taken out of your refund, asking to have the check printed at the tax preparers office instead of mailed, advances on your refund, etc. These bank products are ALL handled through a third party lender. These third party lenders are returning the money received by IRS mistake to IRS who will, in turn, reissue the money to you, probably in a paper check. No one knows how long all this will take. Tax Preparer Services DO NOT have access to this money. It DID NOT go to the preparers account. Neither the preparer service or the third party lender did anything wrong and did not know anything about it. If you owed money and used Direct Debit: Your EIP payment has not been processed yet. As of this moment, you will need to enter bank info online at www.irs.gov ONLY if you don't want a paper check. REMEMBER, If you don't enter your info online you will still get the money! It will simply come in the mail. If you are drawing SS, RRB, SSI or VA benefits, IRS will use the direct deposit info used for those accounts. We do not know when these will be issued. Be aware that this program was rushed into place and has several glitches. Bottom line is that we should all receive our money, eventually.

The City of Gainesville has issued a shelter-in-place order beginning 4/2/20 and continuing until further notice. This order temporarily shuts our office down. The income tax filing deadline has been extended to 7/15/20. For the next few weeks, out of an abundance of caution, our office will be open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am - 3pm. Connie McClure 1 hr Yesterday I was at work and this very sad lady came in. I could tell she was close to tears when I asked could I help her. She was checking to see if she needed to do anything tax wise because she had fallen for a scam. Three weeks ago she was contacted several times by people claiming to be with the IRS. The caller ID showed IRS sometimes and Dept of Treasury at other times...very official looking...because these people are VERY good at what they do. Th...ey threatened her with being arrested and transferred her to others in their office until they convinced her she had to pay up. She transferred all her money to them for payment. I didn't ask how much she lost but she said she has nothing left and that's what matters. She stood there and told me that once she calmed down she started to put it all together and could not believe she had been so stupid (her word not mine). She realized that she had fallen for a scam but her money is gone. She said she was not aware at the time how this goes on because she doesn't keep up with the news. I know you are thinking that this could never happen to your family or friends because they are smarter than that but it happened to her because she didn't know about it. This lady is local and only 60ish. PLEASE take the time to talk about these things so this scam will quit working! It makes me furious that these people are laughing all the way to the bank at us! Once again....the IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU TO COLLECT MONEY OWED!!! NEVER!!! EVER!!! No matter what the caller ID says! Hang up and don't answer again!
