SUMMARY: We will be having Drive-Up at Oak Hill and Online for Cartecay for the next two weeks as we see how this Covid-19 surge progresses. FULL LETTER:... Good afternoon! I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas and the New Year is treating you well. 2020 is behind us, and we look forward to the year ahead. If you're like me, the thing you are looking forward to the most is some relief from coronavirus restrictions. And a big part of that is the vaccine that will now be distributed to those 65 and older in our area. As I understand it, this vaccine is highly effective but requires a booster shot 28 days later. So if everybody in our parish were vaccinated, we could be back to "normal" a little over a month later. Those of us under 65 would hopefully be protected by herd (flock?) immunity, though there are some questions about that. So we're almost home! But we have a bit of a hill to climb to get there. Covid-19 is surging, including here in Gilmer county. Some of the surrounding counties have it worse than us, but the trend line is similar: a steady increase in the rate of spread. The Christmas visits and New Year's parties are now over, and everyone is heading home. Schools start next week. If memory serves me, though, it is usually a couple of weeks after the holiday season that many people come down with colds and flu. With this in mind we will be placing a two-week pause on in-person services. Drive-up and online will be offered as previously done. We pray that this will be sufficient.
