The Georgian Revival style home was slated to be razed in 2013 after falling into disrepair, but was moved to a vacant lot in Atlanta's Ansley Park and restored. The nearly century-old house received the Trust’s Excellence in Preservation Award earlier this year.
#DidYouKnow There's a little town of Bethlehem in Georgia. Located in Barrow County, Bethlehem took its name from the local Bethlehem Methodist Church and was incorporated in 1902. The street names are all names from the story of the birth of Christ. Every year, Georgians flock to the small town to have their Christmas cards stamped with the iconic postmark. In 2016, the machine that inks the distinctive mark was on the fritz and letters had to be hand-stamped using an unofficial Bethlehem hand-stamper, provided by the post office. That year, 115,500 letters were postmarked in the town of 600 people! Image courtesy of WXIA-TV
Amanda Dickson, whose slave-to-millionaire story is largely unknown, became one of the richest African-American women in the country during the 19th century.

Do you care about Savannah's Forsyth Park? Then participate in this survey and share your input for a new master plan, as Trustees' Garden Club partners with the City of Savannah to steward the park into the future! The master plan will provide a tangible assessment of the park's current condition and outline opportunities for future infrastructure, educational programming, and other enhancements. Visit friendsofforsyth.org to take the survey and learn more about the organization. Also, follow them at Friends of Forsyth for updates and more.
If the home is part of a local historic district, there may be rules about the modifications you can make. "Preservation organizations differ widely in what they will allow," says Mark C. McDonald, president and CEO of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. Some take what McDonald refers to as a "museum approach," designating strict limits for colors, materials and other changes to the properties, while others are more flexible.
