We are celebrating our resident Helen D., 100, in honor of National Centenarian's Day. Helen was married for 64 years and gave birth to 14 children, eight sons and six daughters. With such a big family, everyone had a role and responsibilities to keep everything going. She is proud of all of her children and that they have made contributions each in their own way. Her advice to today’s youth? Always treat people with respect and create a welcoming home. When asked about her secret to longevity, she said good genes as her mom lived to be 105! She also attributes her strong faith. What an inspiration!

In honor of National Centenarian's Day tomorrow, we are celebrating resident Irene W., who is 106. Irene's story is one of strength, as she was a single, working mom and raised her three daughters during a time when single parenthood was uncommon. She also had a long career working for the National Cancer Research Center and has always been active, walking 6 miles a day in her youth. Her advice? "Get as much education as you can. That’s very important. Be diligent and read as much as you can."
