The Revitalization of the Adam Strain

Some shots from the final field day of the archeology dig. It was an exciting two weeks and all the cool finds will go to the lab at Coastal Georgia Historical Society for further examination and cleaning. The oldest find is the Native American prehistoric pottery, likely 3000+ years old. The report and artifacts will be on display in the museum planned for the second floor of the Adam Strain. The heroes here are Landmark Preservation, Bennett Preservation Engineering, Ethos Preservation, and Lominack Kolman Smith Architects. But, these shutters! We started the stabilization phase towards the end of July. We’re on schedule to complete the phase this week! The building is stabilized and next we will try to straighten it up a bit.

The last step in the stabilization process is the exterior framing support.

During construction, tabby was poured into a mold or cradle. Round pins or dowels spaced in regular intervals held the cradle in place. It took two to three days to dry and after it hardened, the cradle and pins were moved above and the wall was completed in a layers. These pin holes are in the interior, eastern wall of the Strain building.
