For this #FacultyFriday meet Georgia State alumna, Dr. Oommen! Dr. Oommen has been teaching genetics since she started at State. Alongside genetics, she teaches Human anatomy & physiology and will be teaching a Human Development course this upcoming fall! A problem solver at heart, Dr. Oommen has a strong interest in reproductive and developmental Biology and always has a strong appreciation for her teachers. She was always amazed by their ability to understand a subject ...in such depth and present it clearly to a crowd. A talent Dr. Oommen didn’t know she would soon possess. Dr. Oommen teetered between industry and academia before taking a leap and starting her teaching career here 13 years ago. Although she initially did not plan to become a Professor, this quickly became her passion. She loves the shared energy between her and excited students ready to dive into the sciences with an open and curious mind. Watching her students grow to appreciate and understand the material throughout the semester makes it all the more worthwhile. When Dr. Oommen gets some free time from balancing her administrative and academic duties throughout the week, you can find her prepping her yard for some garden work or cooking up some delicious seafood dishes. Having lived in Georgia since she was 8, she’s a massive fan of any Atlanta Sports team, and some might even say she’s a basketball star herself! Her advice to undergraduate students is to make sure to enjoy yourself and find something that appeals to you. Your major may seem general, but through exploration, you can get involved and find your niche. Don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and explore!

As finals come to a close, remember to be thankful! Appreciate yourself and all the hard work you've put into this semester. Thank those around you who have helped you throughout this time, whether it be your professors, peers, or family. Congratulations on completing another semester, Panthers!
Looking for a quick and easy way to de-stress from finals? Exercise is a great way to release that! It is known that exercise reduces levels of the body's stress hormones, such as adrenaline & cortisol. And stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body's natural painkillers and mood elevators!
Finals can be tough and after long hours of studying, it may seem like there is no end in sight. You have been working hard for this, and you CAN do it! With just three days left, we are almost at the finish line. #Encouragement #FinalsWeek #Breathe #Focus
