Today we said goodbye to @thankyouchloe - our merchandiser extraordinaire She’s been such a huge part of our little shop this past year and we are definitely going to miss her, but she is moving onto great things in California. Hope you had the opportunity to meet her before she embarked on her latest adventure! We love you @thankyouchloe! Thank you for making our shop beautiful! Here are a few things to remember her by My favorite plant in my collection is either my Mo...nstera Subpinnata or my Hoodia Gordonii. My first monstera and my first desert species! My dream plant is a Boophone disticha, I can’t stop thinking about it’s flower!!! My favorite part of working for the Victoria Atlanta is working with creative and motivated people while learning SO much about the plant world and beyond. It’s so easy to make these shops look pretty because the plants, products, and spaces are already gorgeous! This place has been a second home to me for so long and I will miss it so much. Thank god y’all ship because I’ll always be a customer See more

Astrophytum myriostigma var. quad in bloom! Astrophytum are one of our favorite genus of cacti for so many reasons, but especially when they’re flowering. Made up of only 6 species - Astrophytum are native to Mexico and Texas and may take up to 6 years to bloom! Like all other cacti, these need lots of sun (a south facing window is best) and a well draining soil like our cactus mix. It’s super important to get your desert plants on a watering routine that suits the individual plants needs and always remember to let the soil completely dry out before watering again. As long as you have the right light and don’t overwater they are super easy to care for!

Y’all...can we talk about African plants for just a minute? Some of the weirdest and most beautiful plants and flowers hail from the continent of Africa like this Boophone disticha (bo-OFF-on-ee DIS-tik- uh) A native of South Africa, Boophone disticha is also referred to as the ‘century plant’ or ‘tumbleweed.’ It was first collected in 1781 by Swedish botanist Carl Peter Thunberg as Amaryllis disticha. Part of its name comes from the fact that it has distichous leaves - meaning it’s leaves are arranged in a fan, stacked one on top of the other on either side of the bulb. If you guessed it earlier - these guys also bloom when under the right conditions, and their blooms resemble those of the all too familiar Amaryllis flower. A statement piece for sure in any collection and one of our personal favorites.

On Sundays, Cary and I spend some much needed time with our plants at home. One question we get a lot in the shop is How do I know when to water? Our answer to this is not as simple as you might think. We encourage you to spend time with your plants, get to know them, pay attention to how quickly/not quickly the soil is drying out, pay attention to how the light changes in your home, educate yourself on the plants you purchase, ask questions, and always give yourself grace if you don’t get it completely right the first time. Plants aren’t always perfect and we sometimes don’t get it right either, but learning and growing with your plants helps you to be a better plant parent overall. -Libby

Euphorbia drupifera is one of our favorite easy to care for desert plants we keep around the shop. It’s nickname is ‘Green Giant’ (can you guess why? ) They work best in Southern exposures, but if you don’t have South facing windows - West or East will also do. Ignore these guys and they will thrive for you! Like most Euphorbias they don’t need much water since they store lots of it in their bodies. Plant in a well draining soil mix (we recommend our cactus soil) and be sure to let the soil completely dry out in between waterings for a period of time!

The Victorian Atlanta 23.06.2020

We’re trying to hold onto this warm weather as long as we can who else isn’t ready to bring their plants inside just yet?

The Victorian Atlanta 03.06.2020

We’re ready for the weekend! Shop is full of some lovely new creatures like this beautiful Ficus audrey! (Peep our stories for more goods) Like all other Ficus - audreys need bright light and they love to dry out ALL the way in between waterings. Plant your audrey (and fiddle leaf for that matter) in a well draining soil mix and keep those leaves dusted and you’ll be good to go !
