We a fortunate to have a lot of different tree species in the Georgia mountains. Here are a few of them. I'll be making some more videos covering more species.
Towns County had a blast at Camp Rock Eagle in the Shawnee Tribe!!! There's nothing better than starting off your summer at 4-H Camp especially at Rock Eagle!!
I’ve gotten several calls from folks concerned about leaves dying on the tips of the branches on trees. This is cicada damage. The females will lay their eggs in the ends of the branches which kills the ends of the branches. The trees will be fine and grow back, but it can look pretty striking.
Japanese beetles are back in town.
If you see damage like this on your Japanese maple it’s most likely from the freeze we had in April. It’s not going to kill the tree, but the foliage most likely won’t be as full this season. If there are leaves that are completely dead, you can pick them off.
Sweet corn variety trial in the ground today. Trials like these enable us to give recommendations to farmers. I’m looking forward to see what we find this summer, it should be tasty. Thanks to the crew at GMREC for working on this with us.

Happy World Soils Day! Soil takes at least several hundred years to create. That's why it's important that we take care of it. Cover crops like this clover will improve soil quality over time, and reduce erosion on wet day like today. #WorldSoilDay
Brrr...It's cold outside! Did you know that cattle's energy needs increases in cold weather? Be sure that you are providing livestock with the nutrition they need to stay warm during colder temperatures. And especially if it's cold and wet outside.
Thank you Southern Tree Plantation for letting me come out and make a video! Choosing a healthy tree and keeping it healthy are important parts of having a Christmas tree in your home. #UGAExtension
