Trade Day 02.11.2020

You may have heard that there’s a presidential election coming right up (ha-ha!). With or without a highly contested contest for the leader of the free world going on, there’s always a variety of American flag and Americana items available at Summerville Trade Day. Here are a few flag-waving images we’ve captured in recent weeks. This post is meant to be fun, not political, so please don’t add Comments about either candidate or party. Our message is simply: God bless America...! (And we’ll see you bright and early at Tuesday’s market!) Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Dealers start dealing around sunup and pack up around 1pm. Our ample flea market grounds allow room for social distancing. Please follow us on Instagram @summervilletradeday #treasurehunting #bargainhunting #since1976 #summervillega See more

Scenes from Summerville Trade Day in fall: The Pell brothers were picking and singing when not picking for treasures; fresh-picked purple hull peas look so yummy; if you need a cowhide belt, you came to the right place; canned preserves and other goods from summer's bounty. The only thing missing in these autumn photos is you! Will we see you bright and early this Saturday? Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Our ample flea market grounds allow room for social distancing. Dealers start dealing around sunup and pack up around 1pm. (Thanks to Tina Cox, executive director of Paradise Garden Foundation, for sharing photos 2 through 4.) A big Summerville Trade Day crowd works up a big appetite shopping and bargaining, and deserves a big meal deal. Vickey, who runs our popular concession stand, has come up with a great Doggie Bag special for our shoppers on Tuesday: 2 hand-dipped corn dogs, 2 french fries and 2 can drinks for just $10. There’s a deal, folks. And Vickey’s homemade corn dogs are something special. Just ask Finster Atkinson, the super cute 3-year-old pictured here making quick work of one. F...inster is the great-grandson of Trade Day owners Larry and Jane Schlachter. He has declared Tuesday Corn Dog Day at Trade Day! 'Tis the season. No, not THAT season. At least not yet. 'Tis the season for gourds, such as these plump apple gourds and graceful swan gourds that showed up Tuesday at Summerville Trade Day. No telling what varieties will be available at Saturday's Trade Day, but we know there will be gourds. We were looking online for information on apple and swan gourds to share with you when we noticed this most cynical of questions: "What is the point of gourds? Our answer would have bee...n curt: "Are you out of your gourd? They're plain cool, and they just shout ‘FALL!’ which is a cool (literally and figuratively) season." Encyclopedia Britannica had a more even-handed response: "Many gourds are cultivated as ornamentals or food crops, and some can be dried and used to make utensils, cups, bottles, scoops, ladles, fishnet floats, whistles, rattles, pipes, birdhouses, and other useful objects." So gourd darn it, we hope you'll make it to Trade Day bright and early Saturday to get the best selection of, well ... you know. Who had the most fun at Summerville Trade Day last Tuesday? We think Trixie, who was wheeled around our big lot by her proud owner, did. But honestly, we had the largest number of customers we can remember, and everyone seemed to be having a good time shopping for deals and digging for treasures. After a wet Saturday, we’re expecting another good crowd on Tuesday. Join us bright and early. You might even get to pet Trixie! Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Our ample flea market grounds allow room for social distancing. Pull up a chair -- we've got a few available here, as you can see -- and let us tell you about the good deals you can find on items from smalls to furniture at Summerville Trade Day. Take this handsome dining room table and chair set, for instance. At Saturday's Trade Day (where we had a BIG crowd -- thanks to all who attended!), the set went for well under $200. It was stamped with a manufacturing date of 2004, but had never been used. That's a deal, friends! Which brings us... to Tuesday's Trade Day. We can't guess what the deals will be, we only know from long experience that there will be some outright steals. And if you think the price is too high on something you covet, you can barter. Come early and see what treasures you can find! Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Our ample flea market grounds allow room for social distancing. Dealers start dealing around sunup and pack up around 1pm. Happy October, y'all! We don't know what to expect about Halloween this year -- will it be a trick or a treat? But regardless, when we think of October, we think of pumpkins. And we're happy to report that they're starting to show up in all their orange (and even white) glory at Summerville Trade Day. Not only should you be able to find a nice selection of sizes on Saturday, you'll have a hard time finding them cheaper. Best of all they'll be fresh picked, so if you want to d...o some carving they should hold up nicely till the holiday. (And if you want to bake us a pumpkin pie, hey, we won't complain!) Of course, there's plenty of other items to shop for at Trade Day -- if we started listing all the things, we'd be reciting right up to Halloween! Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Our ample flea market grounds allow room for social distancing. Eating a healthy diet with good portions of fruits and veggies is always advised by doctors, but it's especially important right now as we prepare for flu season. Summerville Trade Day is a great place to shop for what's fresh and delicious, such as this display from Saturday's market: red and green tomatoes straight from the farm, Georgia scuppernongs, and pineapples for the low, low price of $1 each. Can't beat that! Will we see you Tuesday? Held every Tuesday and Saturday, Trade Day is located at 12071 U.S. 27, just north of downtown Summerville. GA. Dealers start dealing around dawn and pack up around 1pm. #treasurehunting #producepicking #since1976 #summervillega On Instagram @summervilletradeday

"Bring on the heat!" encouraged the sign in the Holy Monkey Farms booth, which was packed with spicy pepper goodness, at Summerville Trade Day this past Tuesday. If you like your peppers muy caliente, and in good variety, you've doubtless come to the right place. But in fairness to our many other produce vendors, you can count on peppers popping up at other booths, too, this Saturday. What we can say is, someone in the Holy Monkey family has some nice sign-making ability (an...d while we're at it, nice Halloween tablecloth, pepper folks)! You like hot peppers? Come get you some on Saturday morning! The weather forecast is looking pretty great, by the way. Summerville Trade Day is held every Tuesday and Saturday. Dealers start dealing around sunup and are done haggling by around 1pm. #producepicking #treasurehunting #everytuesdayandsaturday #since1976 #summervillega See more

These aren’t for sale, but we just had to show you our beautiful crop of Tall Coreopsis just beyond the sales shed at Summerville Trade Day. Shown in the foreground of the left photo, Noel, the beloved pet of our owners Larry and Jane Schlachter, wishes she were tall enough to better see these high risers (which can top 7 feet). Not to worry, Noel, we’ve included a detail shot of these late summer/early fall bloomers! Speaking of seasons, did you know that fall kicks off on T...uesday (when the weather forecast is splendid)? Held outdoors on ample grounds, Trade Day is a great way to greet the glory of autumn in our Northwest Georgia town. You can see the change already in the delicious produce our vendors are bringing in, such as these just-harvested sweet potatoes from right over the Alabama line in Tennessee. Summerville Trade Day is held every Tuesday or Saturday. Dealers start dealing around sunup and are done haggling by around 1pm. Noel says she hopes to see you bright and early on Tuesday! #treasurehunting #producepicking #everytuesdayandsaturday #since1976 #summervillega See more

If you're into music, a spin down the aisles at Summerville Trade Day can be a fun trip down memory lane. Among the vintage treasures you can find here on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, there's almost always some great music memorabilia, sometimes stacks of it. Bob Marley was here just this past Tuesday (well, a poster of him was!), and we've also at different times spotted George Jones, Lawrence Welk and Glen Campbell. It's another way of saying, there's something for every...one at Trade Day. Come see what surprises await on Saturday!
