Our TES January Educator of the Month is Mrs. Heidi Collins! She is dedicated to her students and grade level, and also a role model for how to be selfless and resilient. The students also have a lot of respect for Mrs. Collins and look up to her. Mrs. Collins helps to make TES a great school through her dedication, determination, faith, caring, and hard work. The Treutlen County School Nutrition Program is hiring substitute workers to work in the cafeteria. Please pick up an application at the Board of Education Office if you or someone you know is interested.

Anyone thinking about breakfast tomorrow? Wednesday morning we will have these beautiful homemade cranberry muffins! Smoothies will also be available on Hall 500.

Here are some of Mrs. Alison's Art 1 students sharing their research and brainstorming presentation for their final project this semester. There are only 8 school days left until Christmas break, and our students are working hard to complete the first half of the year!

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) will be held on January 15th at 8:00am in room 701. There are 20 spots available. If you would like to sign up, please use the sign up sheet that is located in the front office.

THS Final Exam update: THS face-to-face students who originally had the option to take 1st and 3rd period exams will now be able to do so on Monday, January 11th. Second Semester classes will begin on January 12th.

If students need to return or pick up any items, they can come by the front office between the hours of 8:00 am - 3:00 pm this week.

Clarification: Virtual students have not been affected by the school calendar changes. Virtual classes will start tomorrow as planned. CTAE virtual classes and SECCA will begin next Monday.

Student School Calendar Update: During the recent holiday break, we have remained in constant contact with our local Department of Public Health regarding COVID cases. In an effort to be proactive out of caution for our students and staff, Treutlen County Schools will delay the return of students until Monday, January 11, 2020. All athletic and extracurricular events will be cancelled January 4-10.

Update: This game was cancelled, along with all sports for the week of January 4th. We received the following information from PMHS regarding their home basketball games. If you plan to attend the game in Portal on Tuesday, please see the following procedures.

Viking Sports Fans: Here's the 2020-21 THS Wrestling Schedule and a THS Basketball schedule with highlighted changes. Thank you for your patience and undeterred Viking Spirit as we navigate through all of the unforeseen changes due to Covid-19 this year! We will continue to keep you as informed as possible about any adjustments to the schedules.

Basketball Updates: Jeff Davis (away 12/18/2020) was cancelled. Wilcox Co. (away 12/19/2020) was moved to January 15, 2021.... Hawkinsville (home 12/22/2020) was moved to February 2, 2021. Dooly Co. (home 1/2/2021) was moved to January 25, 2021.

Last week, members of FBLA, FCCLA, and SkillsUSA got together for a delicious home-cooked Christmas meal and some fun Christmas games where the members could receive ornaments and cash prizes! Everyone had a blast getting in the Christmas spirit together!

Help TES Salute Our December Character Kids! Each month, students at TES explore a character word for the month. The character word for this month was "forgiving." Each homeroom teacher selected one student that she felt strongly demonstrated this characteristic. Congratulations students!

Mrs Walden’s ECEI class celebrated the end of their baby unit and the semester with a baby shower. ECEI students learn about parenting and baby care, and they used their knowledge about what babies need to select items for shower gifts. The gifts will be donated to a local domestic violence shelter.

THS: Finals: For students who are currently quarantined and need to take finals, they will be provided an opportunity to do so either virtually or face-to-face when we return from the holiday break. For tomorrow's scheduled finals, face-to-face THS students will be allowed to take the finals on January 5th ONLY, if they wish to do so. We will plan to begin the 2nd semester coursework on January 6th to accommodate these testing changes.

Due to an increase in COVID-19 activity within the school system, and in the interest of allowing as many as possible of our staff, students and their families to enjoy the holidays without having to be quarantined, all Treutlen County Schools will be closed for all students on Friday, December 18, 2020. Staff will report on Friday to prepare their classroom for deep cleaning over the break. At this time, students should plan to return to school after the holiday break on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 as planned. We wish you a safe and happy holiday!

The Viking Invitational wrestling tournament scheduled for December 18-19 has been cancelled.

Basketball Updates: The Middle School Boys Basketball Championship will be rescheduled for a date after the holidays. The THS Wilcox basketball game scheduled for Saturday will be postponed. We are working on a new date for the game.... Updates will be shared as we receive information.

Due to the growing Covid19 concerns and the Governor's recommendation, STC will close at noon on Thursday, December 17, 2020, and remain closed to the public until Monday, January 11, 2021. The book pick-up schedule will be Monday, January 11, 2021, and Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 9 am 12 pm and 3 pm 6 pm. See the attached flyer for more detailed information. STC has sent text messages to all registered students who have a valid cell number on file.

Mrs. Salter's Algebra 1 students are learning how to create 3-d polyhedron models. They do this project at the end of each year as a fun introduction to Geometry!

Mrs. Collins will be on campus tomorrow (12/16). If any new Work-Based Learning (WBA) or Teaching as A Profession (TAP) pathway students need to turn in any paperwork or meet for orientation, please see Mrs. Donna tomorrow. She will be on campus in the morning at 10:00am.

REMINDER: Middle/high school virtual students: If you are planning to return to campus, for the first time this school year, for face-to-face instruction beginning on January 5th, please notify Ms. Thomas or Mrs. Strickland no later than noon on Friday, December 18th.

4-H member, Elizabeth Keene, is sponsoring a "Trashion Show" at TMHS! Create fashion from recycled materials and have some fun while you're at it! Cost is $1 to participate or attend at 2:00pm on December 18th. (Participants should arrive at 1:30.) All participants will receive a list of rules and an agenda when they sign up. Mrs. Salter's 2nd Grade Art class got into the holiday spirit and decorated digital gingerbread houses!

If your TMHS students have not already told you, we plan on having a fun day of Christmas Characters this Friday! This weekend would be the perfect time to get started on those costumes!

REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Georgia, is a needs-based mentoring and scholarship program designed to ensure Georgia's academically promising students with academic, social and financial support needed to graduate from high school and college prepared for work. Governor Nathan Deal launched REACH in 2012 and is Georgia's first public-private needs-based scholarship opportunity. REACH Scholar recipients must sign a contract committing to maintaining strong grades, remain drug and alcohol free, meet with their REACH mentor regularly, maintain good attendance and behavior, develop educational and career plans and graduate from high school. The REACH Coordinator recommends students for the REACH Program each fall, followed by a committee review.

Mrs. Litke's 2nd graders were excited about harvesting collards today!

TES has a running club! What started out as a small group turned into 90 students running after school 2 times a week! We have 79 students registered to run tomorrow morning in town. They will run one mile on Railroad Ave at 9:00am. They will start and finish at the corner of Second St. and Railroad Ave. Their route will be running to Jean Gillis Memorial Park and running back. We would like to invite you to come out decked in your Holiday apparel and cheer on our kids! We would love to line Railroad Ave with familiar faces for these runners. It is very exciting to have people cheering you on! We hope to see you spread out along our path tomorrow morning!

Mrs. Walden's Early Childhood Education II students recently completed a unit on child abuse. Students learned to hand stitch and created their own "Danggit Doll" as a positive way of handling parenting stress.

Meet our TES December Educator of the Month, Mrs. Molly Corbett! Mrs. Corbett maintains a positive demeanor, collaborates well with her team, is highly organized, and always professional. We appreciate that she supports school initiatives and works to make sure that her students have the best learning experience. Mrs. Corbett doesn’t mind asking questions because she wants to get things done correctly and efficiently. Congratulations!

Who's ready for some THS Basketball?! The first game is at home tomorrow at 6:00pm against ECI. The gym can only be filled to 75% for safety precautions regarding the pandemic, and tickets will be available first come, first served at the door. The game against Telfair this Saturday has been postponed until February 9th.

Meet Frosty! The School Nutrition department has "adopted" a calf. Her name is Frosty, and she is a Holstein Heifer who was born on Sept. 19th. She weighs 69 pounds and lives at Big Sandy Creek Farm. Be on the lookout for post updates about her throughout the year!
