At True You Southeast, an LGBTQ affirming mental health practice in Decatur, GA, we are shocked and saddened at the ignorance shown at the Georgia State Capital today. As Project Q reported today, State Rep. Ginny Ehrhart announced her sponsorship of the bill on Wednesday. She’s calling it the Vulnerable Child Protection Act.. True You Southeast supports transgender and gender non-conforming children and teenagers. We believe gender affirming hormones are vital to the affirmation of transgender teenagers. Gender affirming treatment for transgender teenagers can lower the suicide rate for teenagers, which American Journal of Pediatrics shared these statistics in a press release recently, shared by the Human Rights Campaign More than half of transgender male teens who participated in the survey reported attempting suicide in their lifetime, while 29.9 percent of transgender female teens said they attempted suicide. Among non-binary youth, 41.8 percent of respondents stated that they had attempted suicide at some point in their lives. At True You Southeast, we call on lawmakers to do the right thing by affirming transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming children and teenagers by showing disapproval of this bill and advocating for the rights of the transgender community by voting no on this bill if it comes up for a vote in legislation. Please help us speak up against the passing of this bill and help us support our transgender and non-binary youth in Georgia and in turn throughout the United States by giving them a voice.
