TSW 17.11.2020

TSW is celebrating our 30th year of planning, architecture, and landscape architecture. As part of that celebration, we are looking back on some of our projects from each studio over the past three decades. TSW’s Architecture Studio designed the West Bartram Townhomes Block, a unique residential product of two-story townhomes over a flat residence in #glenwoodpark in Atlanta, Georgia. Garage parking is provided underneath and is accessed via an alley. The block is broken into a variety of building facades that reflect architecture in Atlanta’s older communities. The townhomes utilize sidewalk entrances and pedestrian-scaled detailing to engage the street, while balconies and stairs create visual interest. Facade design was in collaboration with Historical Concepts. #legacy #legacyproject #tsw30th

TSW’s Campus Planning Studio recently had the opportunity to tour the new building at Motlow State’s Smyrna campus south of Nashville. TSW recommended this building in their campus master plan and TSW’s Architecture Studio created the building program. TMPartners was the architect for the final design. So excited to see this beautiful facility come to life!

TSW is committed to creating #placemaking opportunities with every project. Every Tuesday, we’ll show you an example of placemaking, from signage to parks, from streetscapes to buildings. Veterans Memorial Park is a 3.5-acre green space located in downtown Brunswick, Georgia. The park’s layout is comprised of a network of circles/semi-circles with a strong central axis. The complexity of sidewalks provides visitors with a variety of walking trail options while also forming a ...focal point around the park’s monument plaza, the park’s key placemaking element. The monument plaza contains six granite markers representative of each branch of the military and one large, central granite marker which pays homage to Glynn County veterans who lost their lives while serving. Being the heart of the park, the monument plaza also serves as a stage for entertainment during special events. Other placemaking components of Veterans Memorial Park include an entry gateway sign, a 45’ long granite bridge over a bioswale, a wooden boardwalk with a colonnade of palm trees, and a large open lawn which also serves as a natural amphitheater.

A couple of Saturdays ago, TSW staff spent a morning planting trees with @treesatlanta in Underwood Hills. We had a great time getting our hands dirty and giving back to our community!

In a unanimous show of support, Snellville’s City Council brought four years of community input, idea testing, and draft review to an end with their adoption of the Unified Development Ordinance last night. Check out the article below for more information about the process, TSW Team members, and a link to the adopted code.

It's Official! Poncey-Highland Historic District. The Poncey-Highland Neighborhood is now officially designated by the City of Atlanta as a local historic dis...trict. Through the efforts of the Poncey Highland Neighborhood Association, NPU-N (NPUAtlanta), the Department of City Planning and the Historic Preservation Studio, Caleb Racicot and TSW, District 2 City Councilmember Amir Farokhi, and many others, this historic in-town neighborhood is now protected at the local level and thoughtfully balances growth and historic preservation. The Poncey-Highland neighborhood represents an exceptional collection of residential and commercial properties tracking suburban growth in northeast Atlanta along Ponce de Leon and North Highland Avenues during the early twentieth century. This neighborhood features a diverse number of housing types and styles, including Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Neoclassical Revival, Tudor Revival, Bungalow/Craftsman, American Foursquare, and American Small House, coupled with the presence of numerous historic apartment buildings. The district also represents Atlanta's early-twentieth- century emergence as a regional business and industrial center, with the Ford Factory Lofts and the Telephone Factory Lofts as two prominent examples of industrial adaptive reuse and preservation. The Atlanta Preservation Center fully supported the Poncey-Highland Historic District, speaking in favor of the nomination at the Zoning Review Board Hearing and providing letters of support. This new district is an excellent showcase of the larger Atlanta City Studio efforts to meaningfully preserve the City of Atlanta's historic resources, neighborhoods, and housing types.

One of Birmingham’s tallest buildings has new owners with big plans. TSW's Architecture Studio is leading the renovation design of the 1960s-era, 30-story former AT&T City Center into a luxury multifamily apartment building, known as The 600.

On Friday, TSW held their annual company retreat at Oakland Cemetery. We started the afternoon with a socially distanced picnic lunch and then took a very educational tour of the cemetery. After the tour, we split up into teams and had some fun with a scavenger hunt around the cemetery that ended at Cabbagetown Park where we had snacks and drinks waiting for everyone. A good time was had by everyone who attended and we can’t wait for our next in-person event! Thank you @oaklandcemetery for hosting us and helping us put together a fun day.
