Internships are important. And interns are important, as interns are the next generation who get inspiration from ours. It was awesome to introduce my current intern, Mr. Shane Downard, to my Sunrise Rotary Club this morning. He’s a senior at UNG - Dahlonega aspiring to go to law school. After learning that he still maintains employment in an auto garage after classes, he was offered on the spot last December. Young men and women who work hard in school and who work while i...n school are a special breed. TLG loves getting them the real world experience they need to make informed career choices, especially when considering professional school. That said, we know that Shane is going to kill it out there in the real world. Hope we don’t see him in court on the other side a few years down the road! #ServiceAboveSelf

The most prized part of my law practice and part of my State House campaign platform will address this very issue. As I told the Dawson County News earlier this afternoon: I want to dig deep on finding funds for the treatment of mental health issues through accountability courts, which are currently on the chopping block for unsustainable budget cuts. Far too many families are affected by the manifestation of mental illness and/or substance abuse in their loved ones, which t...hese courts are designed to address at the local level through the power of the bench and our elected State Court Solicitors, District Attorneys and clinical professionals. These courts are largely state funded programs that reach far beyond the individuals being treated, often affecting (if not restoring) entire families in Dawson, Lumpkin, and Forsyth County. Not to mention, as my past and present colleagues in the Dawson County District Attorney’s office point out, these programs save TONS of tax payers dollars, a principle with which all good fiscal conservatives can and should agree. #VoteTumlin #May19 #AccountabilityCourtsSaveLives
