The 155 year old historic doorknob was missing from the observation deck door at the top of the lighthouse yesterday evening around closing. We hate to think that someone stole it but, since it has not been found, it looks as if it's a possibility. If you have any information please call 912-786-5801. No questions asked.

The Tybee Island Historical Society was pleased to be able to provide a grant in 2019 to the Friends of the Cockspur Lighthouse to help make this restoration process of the door and windows happen. It’s exciting to watch!

We'll be taking a look back at Tybee Island Then and Now. We're starting with Battery Brumby and Battery Garland, pictured here in 1936. The 12-inch rifled gun mounted on a non-disappearing carriage still sits upon Battery Garland. Today Battery Brumby houses the Alee Shrine Club, and Battery Garland is home to the Tybee Island Museum. The Tybee Island Historical Society was sadden to learn about the passing of David Cornelius, our neighbor and long time supporter of the Lighthouse. We will be flying our flag at half-staff today and on Wednesday in his memory. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.

Tybee Lighthouse is open for visitors, today, August 3rd. We will stay open as long as we are able. The tower is open for climbing, but the observation deck is closed due to high winds.
